Oh, and the heater controls have done that thing they all seem to do and look a mess.
Spyder Performance sell replacements, as do D911 (for £2x)

Thanks, that will be one of the first jobs I think.

The car has an amazing amount of history with it, £20k's worth of invoices, everything has been kept. Every service receipt, tyres, wipers, everything!

The engine was replaced at 25,000 miles by Porsche Colchester, back in 2008. I wonder if that was the dreaded IMS failure.

So it never had Girodiscs?

Nice car. Shame about the wheels change though.
Possibly wrong about the discs or the ad has been changed. I remember it had a few mods. Its possible some have been removed if the seller is having trouble selling and is hoping the change back to more standard will help. Surprised the link just worked. I tried it earlier and it didn't work. Weird.

Internet folk law says the latest 2.7 has the big bearing and this is more robust so who knows. Maybe the owner just bounced it off the rev limiter with no oil in and lunched the motor.

I will check the paperwork when I get the car, but I am pretty sure it was done under warranty. It's an April 2005 car.

Makes life more interesting. biggrin

Actually, it just occurred to me that if mine had a new engine in 2008, it's surely going to have had the redesigned IMS fitted. That would be good news if so.

I'd have thought so. Mine supposedly has an engine number just after the larger bearing was introduced, so I don't let it worry me.

Was browsing CC and spotted this.

Surely light scoring will develop into "full" scoring at some point?

Lovely looking car!

Mmm, I expect a world of pain awaits the next owner of that.

I can't imagine the paperwork explaining the reason for the replacement. And it isn't really relevant. All you care about is its had a new engine and if it has the better bigger bearing.

Yep, I think given it was fitted in 2008, it should have.

Look at all the other cars he has at cheap prices too.

He seems to put a lot of time and effort photographing them all over the UK too. wink

You mean he hasn’t got a large showroom in SW17??

Thanks, you have confirmed my suspicions, hence why I put “too good to be true”

Very difficult to tell. My old 987S had light scoring when I bought it 11 years and about 40k miles ago. It's now owned by a friend and is still fine and off the scale in terms of oil consumption which is a leading indicator of scoring.

At least the seller is being upfront about it.

The seller is very honest, stating it clearly in the ad! It's not like he disguised it in the small print or something.
He could easily have passed it on, without mentioning the results of the borescope in the ad.

If you buy something like a 10+ years old car (especially an enthusiasts car like this) and you don't read the ad carefully or have a closer look at the photos, the onus lies 100% on you.
