Not so poverty pork- 986 2.7 at an OPC: http://locator.porsche.com/ipl-customer/ipl/detail...

First time in a long time I've seen one at OPC.

Snip at £15k

Averaging 1000 miles per year! I think that's one that will go to a collector and be mothballed. No wonder it has the 'stronger battery' - possibly started about once a month.

For this thread I'd want something that has been used and maintained - no psychological barrier for me at 100k miles.

Happy 2018 from the colony (India).

Spotted this on AT (I'm a little bored):
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Interesting combination - poverty spec (has base alcantara / vinyl seats and no A/C) but has litronics, Bose, 18" Turbolook II wheels and trip computer

Sub £5k. 'Only' a 2.7, but at only 68k, I think it's not a bad punt at the price if it checks out. Can't check MOT history as my ISP here blocks it due to some reason.

Yeah I think that looks alright.

Personally a lack of AC would rule it out for me though. When blatting along a European motorway in summer, I'd not be thinking happy thoughts that I'd saved a few hundred quid.

Nice little UK track slag though.

Guys, from memory on having followed this thread for a few years now and in reference to 986 Boxsters:

Am I right in thinking that today's view is that between 2.5 and 2.7 the 2.5 engine will be a better prospect in terms of known issues (all else being equal) such as IMS / D-chunk / bore scores etc?

Quite keen on a 1998/99 early Boxster with as few options as possible (but must have a/c).

Great, thanks for that!

Seems like I'm more liable to have issues with my 997 then... I do wonder whether doubling up on M96/97 engines is pure lunacy, but then again they're such fantastic cars I don't quite fancy anything else!

At the risk of being petty, 11 stamps in 17 years is not FSH surely? Good value as ever compared to a 996 though!

Bought some poverty pork myself last weekend, an early 986 2.5 which has been in storage for the last couple of years. Overall really happy with the car, little bit of a recommissioning project to keep me occupied to spring smile

I get where you're coming from, but where do you draw the line?

Despite the sketchy mileage difference between '08 and '09 and the time difference '11 and '14, this was advertised as FSH. Picked up by me in late '16. Came a stack of invoices and a comprehensive Excel spreadheet itemising maintenance. Then in my 14 month tenure, I've spent nearly £5k getting it to scratch. So if I decide to shift it in the next couple of years or so, do I advertise it as FSH or not? It's a 2000 car. Despite 'only' having 12 services, on average, it has been serviced every 12k miles...

I'd say comprehensive SH

That's lovely. Has litronics too. I'd be on the phone about that if I was in the market. Bear in mind, it's around the age / mileage where the clutch / DMF, suspension arms, cooling and A/C systems may need attention.

Completely missed that (was that updated recently? I swear it didn't state that when I looked - still have a search bar with 'clu' in it).

That is a good find and reasonably priced.

This. Whilst some of the mileages between the 3 year service gaps aren't huge, some items are time or miles. A full service history would be a service every 12 months regardless of miles.

Which reminds me, I need to book mine in as it was serviced 12 months ago (and 4000 miles).

Thanks chaps. Unfortunately, it's just that last service at 107k that is a statistical outlier, but I get your point. Do you think this would put of prospective punters (it didn't put me* off) - bear in mind it's a high mileage example and not something I'd describe a concourse. I'd be aiming it towards enthusiasts* who will actually drive the thing and isn't afraid of putting miles on it as opposed to collector types.

That's impressive.... Unless Phoenix Garage use some sort of insane work order system run on a random number generator, they carried out over 22000 jobs in less than a year! laugh

Well, if you look at services 3 and 5 carried out at OPC Guildford, they seem to work backwards, so who knows...

I guess after this point, anyone that would like to buy these cars (the prices are so low) just would get a generic inspection and go ahead. The massive history details are a bit overkill imho, in the current price range. My check list would be;

Cooling works?
No oil leaks?
Transmission works alright?
No rust or heavy repair on the structural parts?
Exhaust system does not suffer yet?

If all checks, and you getting a flat6 for nearly 5k, total bargain, no more questions asked biggrin

I agree but I get the feeling the average buyer is a lot more special. They want impeccable service history and low miles and low owners and they want to know who used the car, when and why. I hate selling cars. Maybe thats why I have 4.
