Well, that was some interesting reading. One to rule out then, or is it worth a visit if you're familiar with 986s and in the North East?

At £4,250 I'd say maybe not, but at £3.5k, if it's had a new clutch and suspension arms as mentioned, I still think it could be worth further investigation.

There in lies another problem, I believe. Having recently been hit with some maintenance bills myself I now find the price of whole cars of a similar vintage even cheaper than they appeared before. If our glass is half full and we are to believe that these cars will not require any significant maintenance in the near future then we start to question why we have spent so much on our current cars. But who is willing to jump ship from their current car after several big bills and jump into another? Or if our glass is half empty then whats to say these cheap cars wont throw more bills at us. And so the the merry go round keeps spinning. Personally I've got my eyes on this right now as I'm curious where the market sees its value.

ATM, I agree with those sentiments. Currently having some buyer's remorse myself - was / am toying up with selling up, however, if I did, the new buyer would end up getting a 986 that in the last 10k miles has new suspension arms all round, DMF, clutch and A/C components for ~£5k (if that) and probably have years of trouble free motoring. I'd be out of pocket by a similar amount and have no 'fun' car. I dunno.

Stick or twist. Once you've thrown a load of money into it then you either have to keep it or go for a complete change.

Spotted via FB - This looks like a great buy for someone at £7k and is a great spec, pre facelift 3.2, best interior colour, extra leather and silver bits, gingercators, and full M030 just fitted. Reputable garage with a good rep round these parts too.

Just popping in to say hi.

I really fancy a Boxster in the next few years, currently have a Clio 197 as a weekend toy/track tool.

2 quick question really.

1. I'm a leggy 6"4 who can just about fit in an MX5, will i fit in one of the 986 models?

2. Would the 2.7 be the best intro into these cars? It seems to be the sweet spot for the non S but wanted to hear people opinions over the 2.5.

I'm 6ft and I couldn't get as far back as I'd have liked in a 986.

987 has much more room.

Might be looking that way unfortunately, after my recent cayenne purchase I wanna try to get into a boxster around may/June. Probably the worst time to buy, but a classic silver 2.5 with red leather is calling me smile

Could this be attributed to the time of year?

That car is (was) owned by an member on Boxa.net with a low post count. Was bought in Feb this year for £2k allegedly. He's probably laughing right about now.

Picked this up at the weekend for £2k. 3.2s manual. 117k miles and MOT for 5 months.

Problems i've noticed with it so far:

-crunch when going into second when the box is cold. Fine once warmed up.

- Radio and heater panel not getting power

- 1x sidelight not getting power and fogs aren't working

-Airbag light on

-Check engine light on. Codes are apparently to do with Lambda sensors, although both showing says to me there's a problem further upstream, so i'm going to clean MAF sensor and check for air leaks at the weekend.

-Steering wheel is wonky, but drives straight. Annoying more than anything.

Everything else works as it should and it pulls bloody well.

Overall, bargain of the century, i'm super happy.

Blimey, even poverty porks being flipped!? laugh

987.2 or 981 still my favourite pick for a semi-daily, hassle-free flat 6 motoring. 986s all now into that specific age that requires a lot of not cheap work. coffee

This does not look so bad, either!

Lapiz Blue. Here’s my 2001 one owner, 113k Mile, full OPC history car I picked up last month for £3150

It’s turned into a bit of a restoration obsession. I’ve put a new hood on it from BAS international (£700), spent £500 on a short shifter and CV boot and it’s currently at the Porsche bodyshop. Started as a £1500 partial respray but I’m now £2300 in! Oops!

Very nice and you are right it is Lapis Blue.

Im booked into a specialist in early May for a service and health check so we shall see whether the gamble paid off.

My wife also reversed into a land rover so it's booked in for a bumper repair too. The dent actually popped itself out which was nice but the paint has cracked slightly.

More importantly though I have been really enjoying driving the nuts off it!

OT - Did the wife blame you BTW for the mishap with the land rover?
