A handsome, but auto 944. Fairly low miles if genuine...
Estimated Sale Price / Auction: £4000 - 4750

I don't think I've ever sat in a 924/944 pre S2. They all seem to have enjoyed some increase in values over the last few years. Don't seem to be thread favourites.Estimated Sale Price / Auction: £4000 - 4750

We know the sills rot on these but is that just the coupes or are the cabs known for it too?
Cabs too. The bodies were galvanised but that doesn't last for ever and the rot bites quite hard. Earlier ones fared better than later ones and that's a late one. Having said that, the cills look OK (in as much as you can tell from the photos) and the house is indeed a nice one so the car may well have been garaged. Regular use also helps as it means the cills dry out better.
The 924, 924S and early 944 models are finding a new lease of life as they are eligible for historic rallying - 7 of them started (and finished) Le JoG this month. Taking them out of the reach of "poverty" Pork, leaving this thread to the Boxster/Cayman fans. Where's the thread for the front-engined cars ?
I would love an early 924, without boot spoiler and with chrome trim in a proper 70's colour like the green or yellow.
closest I can find https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-924-2-0-Coupe-T...
But I remember a couple fo years ago these were £1000 cars so it would pain me to spend any money.
either that or a 924s with a decent engine, much prefer the purity of the shape to the exaggerated steroidal 944.

First time I’ve looked at a 924 since the ‘90s and thought, yeah I’d have that. The interiors are now old enough to be cool vintage retro what with their ‘70s browns and chequered patterns. closest I can find https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-924-2-0-Coupe-T...

Don’t think the engine was all that though, wasn’t the 968 the one to have? 3.0.

The 3 litre in the 968 was also in the 944 S2 too right?

Early 924 was a 2.0 8v. Distantly related to the one from a VW van but only very distantly. The 3 litre in the 968 was also in the 944 S2 too right?
Late 924 ('S') got a 2.5 8v. The 924 Turbo was a 2.0 8v.
944 ('Lux') had the 2.5 8v from the late 924 and later ones got a 2.7 8v. There was a 2.5 16v ('S'), then a 3.0 16v ('S2'). The 944 Turbo was a 2.5 8v.
The 968 got the 3.0 16v from the 944 S2, with a few tweaks. It had variable valve timing and a different inlet manifold but didn't make that much more power or torque.
As all the cars are fairly similar then engine swaps are supposed to be not too hard. A 924 (light, narrow, streamlined) with the 3.0 16v engine from the 968 is meant to make for a decidedly formidable machine.

My old 944 S2 has 213k on the clocks and did run like an utter peach...The 987 2.7 Cayman I bought 6 months ago is the replacement. It's thirstier, slower and the parts are a load more expensive.
Which would I rather be driving when I have to go somewhere? The 944. Easily.
I found my 944 S2 a fair bit slower than my 996 3.4 - plus less involving and with a boring soundtrack. It was a good car, but not a great one imo. Nice comfy retro cruiser but never really clicked. The 944 got sold after a year, i still have the 996 after getting on 5 years nowWhich would I rather be driving when I have to go somewhere? The 944. Easily.
I might get another 944 in the future if cheap and rust free as i think they look awesome, but probably an earlier one and tweaked.

Really nice one Fastbug, that would have been the spyder 987.2 purist of 80s, with no radio spec easily! Why did you sell it?
It had only done 6000 miles, and although I don't put massive mileage on my fun car, I just felt guilty using it. In 2 years I would've doubled the mileage on it, I've got 2 young kids that I take out in the car as well, so the backs of the seats could get damaged. So I sold it and bought an early 996 that I'm happy to park anywhere, the kids can clamber over the seats to get in it and I'm not bothered about the odd stone chip here and there. If I'd have had the space and money I would have kept it for sure
Not bad price for a classy white 996. Would look sweet with fuchs reps or black OZ's
