Had it plugged into the OBD Computer at the garage up the road and it's recorded a few 'miss fires' on 4 out of 6 cylinders. frown
Cleared the errors and took it for a spin and it's running like a bag of nails, very similar to a Mk4 Golf GTi I used to have that had a similar coil pack set up, hopefully it's not all 6 but the last service from Porsche did advise that the packs were all cracked, might be time for new plugs as well. rotate
The coils aren't expensive, I've seen sets of 6 offered for around £150 or so. Genuine Beru.

Can get the coils & plugs for about £200 from Eurocarparts but need the garage to confirm this is what's shagged and they can't get it in until Wednesday.
If it was mine I'd be changing them all anyway, they were all 'advises' on the last OPC major service but its the Mrs's call and she'll not be a happy bunny if its then something else. wink

I'd just change the cracked ones as they are/will go bad, a garage confirmation may cost as much as the parts..

Decided to up my 'man points' count and just got on with it, fiddly job but not that bad, all the old coils were quite badly cracked around the bodies, not sure what effect that has on there performance but it was miss fireing on a number of cylinders so replaced them all with OEM Beru bits and although the plugs didn't look bad they were overdue a change so they got replaced at the same time.
Took it for a blast round the block and all seems well once more. smile

Thats got me thinking about painting the wheels on my S again.
Like the dark centres and light rims.

Thanks for all the positive comments. We all read these forums and with all the talk of 'Turbos' 'GT3' and 'RS' models, I think these get over looked.
These were the last of the original Boxsters with all the spec you will ever need.

When you think I have a sports car from one of the worlds greatest car makers, a superb chassis not to
mention open top motoring all packaged up in a car that never fails to make any journey feel special, and I paid the same price as a new Ford Feista!!!

That in my book is a bit of a bargin!!

You mean you have the 986 BOXSTER pretending to be 550 (which was half the weight), which is hardly different from any 986 (still very good cars, I wouldn't congratulate myself on 'impeccable taste' though, not to mention duplicate post wink)

I know but it's just a 986 with a few tweaks. It's the marketing move that obviously payed off. As the fan of the original 550 I find calling it the 550 really confusing.
