That looks quite tidy. I do miss my 924, they're great fun. Just not even vaguely quick!

£1500-1750 for that would be a great price. It looks like quite a tidy one and would make for a lovely daily driver.

Ummm ... no thanks. Someone's spent a pile of money on making a 986 look like a 997 and I've never quite understood the mentality behind that sort of thing. Each to their own I guess, but the end result is neither fish nor fowl.

Great car if you like the 997 GT3 front end, only have £7k, and don’t care what 99% of car people will think of you

You mean 99% of car guys, right?
The vast majority of the population wouldn't know (and/or care) that this has been altered and didn't left the factory like this.

While it isn't for me, I have to say that I have seen far worse. It only looks 95% wrong to me boxedin

If you want a 997, buy a 997. By the time you've bought a 996 and got that crap stuck on it, you more than likely could have bought a 997 any way...

Only this is no 996, but rather a 986 wink

I think the 997 front end is more offensive when done on a 996. It's not like someone is trying to pass off a Boxster as 997 GT3.

The 997 front end is generally considered to be the more appealing looking front end compared to the much maligned 9x6 front.

The replies are a little harsh I think.

Both of these are true. I think the opprobrium comes from the car trying to be something that it's not and that someone spent (probably quite a lot of) money to achieve this. It's all a bit 'fur coat and no knickers' IYSWIM.

I disagree with that. Anyone who knows what a GT3 is will know immediately that this isn't one. Noone else will care. So there can't be any reason for doing it other than the person likes how it looks. Maybe it had a front end bump and needed a new bumper and lights. It couldn't be further from a fake Rolex as they are trying to pass off as genuine, are very commonly recognised and identified by the public, and in some cases would need quite a close inspection to discern whether genuine or not.

Anyway, can this be a Poverty Ferrari candidate than ?

https://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/ferrari-mondial...

If it fetches around 18-20 as expected, it is nearly poverty gen2 987 price... -I remember seeing them as low as 12k 8 years ago! ears

Oh ok well I’m sure you’re right as usual, you must have spoke to the owner to be that certain and that’s more reliable than simply speculating on the matter which is all I have done. smile

I have spoken to the owner, he's on a facebook group i'm in. He bought it with the 997 front end on because it was a good price and he liked it.There seems to be lots of others that like it also.

So he bought it because he liked how it looked? I thought he bought it to fool people that it was a more expensive car!

Maybe we should set up a webex with the bloke, and all other parties, and get to the bottom of it once and for all?

I'd be tempted by a facelift at the front of my 996 if it meant the headlights can light up the road ahead for me to see where I'm going rather than just alerting other road users that a car is heading towards them, maybe.

If the owner came on here and told cmoose personally why he bought the car, he'd be dismissed as lying to save face. Once cmoose has decided upon something, that's that.

It's a daft to think someone having a 997 GT3 front end on a Boxster is trying to pass it off as a more expensive car, it's clearly a Boxster, not like he's trying to hide the fact or ashamed about it. Just has a front end that's generally considered by everyone, car lovers and the average man in the street to be better looking.

I'd get the point you wanted to make if you were talking about one of those Boxster conversions that ends up looking like a 991 GT3 or whatever it is, or a MR2 355.
