OK, so its exactly a year ago today that I started this thread so thought I'd share an update.
Before i do though, just want to say thanks to the many people that have contributed to this thread, offers of assistance, advice etc and the thread has become a whole lot more than just about Bluebell, its become a real resource for people looking at the lower end of Boxster ownership and on the whole its all very positive.
Well, in the whole its been a great year, have put c8500 miles on her, she started out as an experiment to see if i could go back to a manual car and what I've learnt is that low slung cars I can do but hatchbacks I cant, the less bend in the knee the better, so sports cars can be manuals, hatches / saloons etc will need to be autos.
This does mean that my desire to go 911 can be fulfilled with a manual should I wish.
Truth is though, I have no real desire to currently as even my lowly 2.5 is so much fun in the lanes between home and work that i dont think I need anything quicker just yet, especially as for pure speed thrills I have the bikes
In the year Bluebell has cost me a little, but not too much, I managed to crack the rear screen, so rather than just replace I had Carhood Warehouse in Chessington supply and fit an upgraded roof with heated rear screen to the car, made a big difference to its usability as far less faffing and also freshened up the car as the old 13 year old hood was looking a little tired.
Also put new tyres on and after advice here went for the Falken 452's and they have proven great
The car had its last service at GTOne in Chertsey where it breezed through its MOT with no advisories and although they mentioned a few 'nice to do' jobs they found nothing that was a problem on the car and on the whole were quite complimentary of her.
Bluebell has been engaging, fun to drive, reasonably practical and all in all a great little buy
Onwards we go .....

I think you mean 15 year old hood ( MY98 )I've been reading this discussion over the last couple of days (whenever I get a few spare mins at work – I’m not that slow at reading!) and the advice and tips have been great. I had been keeping an eye on the boxster market for a little while before stumbling across this discussion and I will now be hunting in anger for an early 2.5 in the classifieds. Unbelievable value at the moment but I do need to shift my mk1 mx5 to make space and I'd better get an insurance quote first. Hopefully a classic policy won’t be too bad as a second car, 28yr old with clear licence, garaged and in an okay postcode.
I did have a quick look on German ebay last night and boxsters seem to have held their value a bit better over there, ~£2k more than a similar spec (as far as I can tell) uk car.

Am I the only one looking for a bargain basement 3.2 rather than a 2.5 or 2.7? Talk about bang for buck!
Anywhere from £4.5k to £7.5k will get you a very tidy example. Having said that I am just about to spend the thick end of £1k on new front and rear arms/bushes/balljoints all round, install and geo as well ... gulp! That's with bargain basement hunting on the parts too.

All depends what you want it for, I'd have the tidiest example i could find regardless of engine size, if you're doing more A roads and long haul suff then the bigger engines may be better but on a B road blast once I have my 2.5 wound up it sticks like glue in the twisties....The 3.2 is a bit different to the 2.5 but I'd agree that primarily you want to try and find a good one - one that drives well, and if possible has recent money spent on clutch, aircon, rads, hood, suspension arms etc..
3.2 sounded a lot nicer than the 2.5 and 2.7 I drove - more noise the 2.5 was very quiet unless really wound up
Not that I'm looking for another one, but this 3.2 is very cheap. Obviously it might be terrible..

It's a very good price (if it's sound). The colour isn't great though. 3.2 sounded a lot nicer than the 2.5 and 2.7 I drove - more noise the 2.5 was very quiet unless really wound up

If I can't get 2k more than that for mine then it's staying for another year. Mind you, if does have IMS, RMS, disks, tyres, air con rads, coil packs, windscreen and hood screen, paint, wheel refurb, front lower arms and lots of other stuff replaced recently.

Umm Rainforest Green tends to be a bit marmite hence why it is pretty rare. Fairly high miles will put some off as well.3.2 sounded a lot nicer than the 2.5 and 2.7 I drove - more noise the 2.5 was very quiet unless really wound up

They all sound great - although I was pondering the Carnewal mod for the 2.5. I don't think it'll be needed on the 3.2 I'm getting.
