The car didn’t sell during the timed auction and I didn’t bid as I knew the reserve price but the car subsequently shows it was sold below the figure I offered on the phone. Strange all round.
I've read on other threads that they put the squeeze on seller to lower/drop their reserve which probably happened after your contact. I'm not sure why run of the mill stuff like this is going up on Collecting Cars. I see it as a replacement service for people that would have typically used a traditional specialist auction house. High end sports and classics typically.
The seller of this Cayman would have been better off on Auto Trader.
Ended up selling the bloody thing for the same money on eBay classifieds as it got to on CC a couple of months later, should have just flogged it then.
From a seller's perspective it was pretty easy, car got a lot of exposure on various car sites and a tweet from Chris Harris which was fun.

Each platform has its pros and cons for the buyer and seller. Most favour the buyer and leave the seller to pay the necessary charges and deal with countless low ballers, tyre kickers and eejits asking daft questions. CC is flipping this by giving the seller a relatively easy ride by comparison. From looking at their sale history they tend to list cars that aren't available on other platforms, so if you want a particular car and it's only on CC then you play to their rules. Having hundreds of high-quality photos certainly makes it easier as a buyer to determine whether a car is worth going to view. Nothing worse than making a long trip to go and see something described as mint, immaculate, beautiful only to find it's an absolute dog. The main issue I have with CC is similar to other platforms - I'm usually many hours away from the listed cars and arranging a viewing in the timeframe just isn't possible. I'm not sure if you can view a car while it's on their 'coming soon' section? If that was the case and they put them in there for, say, a fortnight, that would work much better.
There have been some bargains on there, a £55k 997 GT3 was an absolute steal IMO. There have also been some instances where the car didn't seem particularly special or cheap once the fees are taken into account. I think some people must get carried away with the auction.

Looks like my very own poverty pork is going up for sale. I acquired a project car and wifey showed her dismay that I was entertaining keeping both.
996, C2 manual on resale silver. Plenty of the usual fails done and 160k under its belt. It’ll probably become the cheapest one on eBay/ PH/ AT when the ad goes live.

Hopefully this will help get the thread rolling again...
97 Launch model in arctic silver with Boxster red.
114K with comprehensive history, mostly OPC and Northway/Steve Bull.
Thick wedge of receipts including recent clutch and dmf, suspension work, coil packs, radiators, front and rear brakes and a major service.
Body is pretty straight for its age but needs one rear quarter painted due to lacquer being dead.
Extended leather inside with factory console delete and no aircon though it’s currently stripped out to chase a water leak.
Engine is a gem and it drives well with no coffin arm or tuning fork rattles.
I’ve got plans to tidy and improve some areas but for £3400 I’m pretty pleased.

That’s cleaner than the arch in my 3 year old car! Impressive
Looks like one that was "prepared" by a certain member / part time trader on another forum, IE cleaned with several types of snow foam...Regardless, for £3,400, it's a cracking buy!
£3.4K! These cars are amazing value, a rewarding drive and seem to look better and better as they age. What’s not to like?
In this case it’s just removed years of road grime, salt, mud and general detritus and uncovered the original factory underbody protection and surface finish.
It allows a proper inspection of the areas that collect and harbour mud and gives a good opportunity to treat and reprotect and corrosion.Personally I’ll give all the areas a coat of clear underbody wax before using it on the road again but I would say it’s a worthwhile exercise if you have the time and patience.
Saying that,I’m glad somebody else did the hard work

This is my thread on my poverty pork purchase....

Purchase price of £12k for a 996 C4 I think makes it poverty now?
By that I mean it might not have done 18 months ago?

Wow, lovely and just what I'd love to find (including at that price). Did you buy off Trooper from eBay, or was this through another means? Can't see only £3400 being reached in a normal auction?RiccardoG said:

I had been looking at another car he had on eBay when he listed this out of the blue.It ticked pretty much all the boxes for me so I had a bid on it and came away with it for £3400.
Trooper was a nice guy to deal with and his description of the car was accurate and honest in my opinion.
Several 2.7s for under £5k on AT at the moment. This one doesn’t look too bad to my untrained eye, although not a fan of the rear spoiler. Hard top included as well.

What on earth are are you talking about Speedgelb?
Why have you used asterix with the word prepared?
