I know all this, reason I question it is it's just personal preference that gets plastered all over the forum as fact.

Less grip and rolling about on the sidewalls isn't the handling traits I want from a Porsche.

I'd get a Mk3 MR2, or MX-5 for that type of driving experience.

Well our 986 purchesed in Dec 2020 from Flat Six Classic passed it's first MOT at our local OPC a couple of weeks ago, not even an advisory. Porsche health check done also whilst it was there, just rear tyres getting low(ish) and since they were 5 years old they were replaced, wierdlt the OPC beat any online price I could find, and you get tasty coffee whilst you wait.

987 and 997 only came with 18 or 19 inch wheels didn’t it?
Nope. 987 standard size was 17inch.
You're quite right, 997 was 18" or 19" only

100% this, the fact you can get a 996 to play around on 18" wheels and not look pony in the process is an added bonus. The smallest wheels look lost on a Cayster/911

My 1998 996 bought privately without sn inspection has sailed through all it's MOT with me since 2017. So this isn't particularly impressive.

However getting an OPC to sign off on an old car is impressive.

The MOT advisories are different to the 'sales' red amber green OPC checklist.

Just off to Newquay airport and then to sunny Manchester to collect my first 911. It's only taken me 30 something years. smile

Include flights & fuel and it’s a £12K manual C2.

Drive back was absolutely fantastic. I’ve not been so smitten with a car since my old E30 M3.

Thanks all. I plan to spend a few hours tinkering today and getting to know it a little better. I still need to find a cover that I can use till I find a garage to rent.

I have a 996.2 c2 with the same rear spoiler and use the Classic Additions Ultimate car cover as I can't use my garage, been in use for 4 years now.

Thanks. We only moved in a couple of months ago and it's much smaller than it looks in photos. There's only 2 of us and 3 dogs though so it's perfect. The garden is pretty big though, so relatives need to buy a tent. smile
