Ooo, I've been indirectly mentioned with a jibe. Is that the cue for me to throw a little flounce about personal insults really upsetting me and then complain to moderators to get posts deleted?

Compare that to other auction fees.
No buyers fees whatsoever on an ebay auction. Seller pays about £40 max.

Classic car auctions take a fee from the seller AND the buyer. At ACA it's 6% to buyer, £75 fee plus 6% to seller, SWVA 8% on the buyer, big boys like CCA, Historics, H+H etc charge 10 - 12.5% plus VAT to buyer!

All of them have entry fees and hefty charges to sellers; the only advantage I see to that collecting cars site is the seller has no fees to pay.
Yes, so eBay is the bargain basement, hence its popularity (IIRC it undercuts most classifieds options, too).

Point was that auction fees elsewhere are typically in excess of the CC fees which aren't unreasonable.

At least one PH'er has sold their car on there. And it wasn't a trade bid. Not everyone who buys from an auction is a trader.

Even with fees, that went for under £10k. Looks like a great buy to me.

That would make the guide price for this one attractive too at Mathewsons on 21st March (now cars only, no memorabilia due to covid-19. Bidders only too, no tyre kickers ? ). Entry by catalogue only I presume like most others. 2001 3.4 C2, 80k miles in blue, £9500 - £10,500:

996 C4S with Hartech rebuild and what looks like a highly motivated seller. Might be worth a sniff if it's the full monty Hartech and rest of cars good.

If that's genuine it could be a great buy for somebody!

Apologies for screenshot from 'phone...

Early 2.5, 124k miles, "lots of high end receipts" would require some further investigation. £2850. I'd imagine it'll sit for a while with it being in Elgin.

Would make a decent base for my planned weekend / track slag but I couldn't live with terracotta.

In the FB thread the seller commented that he's bought a classic 911 and needs to shift the 996.

I doubt it'll be there end of tomorrow?

Going off the collecting cars C4 I'd say maybe 40% different yeah.

The 3.9 is probably close to a one of a kind tho. Whilst very desirable, this one is a standard hartech rebuild. Having said that FWIW i think this one is great value.

It is not like for like - one is a 3.9l conversion, which would make it worth more than the FB car in any circumstances. Secondary to this is the huge impact of Covid 19 on the economy and the outlook of buyers.

I would suggest that the 3.9l car was probably £4-5k above standard rebuilt cars, at that time, and the FB car is probably £2-3k below where it might have been pre crisis. Probably.

I think prices for private sales have dropped and will continue to do so - dealers/traders only have so much wriggle room.

Last time we had this I found myself in the same situation as the FB seller, but with boats - ordered and paid for the new one, thought the old one would shift quickly, excrement hit the fan and ended up taking an offer nearly 40% below where I had started, just to get it sold.

I would not fancy being in the sports car or boat business at the moment.

Looking at the black 996 sellers profiles would indicate this is his new squeeze.

His story appears to stack up. Wife's not happy. Like I said...motivated seller.

Anyone with good insight into what happened after 2008 - the % drops and speed of recovery for £40k+ stuff?

I was into babies instead of cars back then.

I was considering it might be time to punt my 996 on due to so little use. It’s high mileage so will never be worth mega bucks but I guess I’ll be keeping my clutches on it for the time being. hehe

This isn't poverty pork but it gives us an idea of what people are willing to pay this week. Looks like top dollar to me, even accounting for the desirable spec.

Some cars/models went down pretty low.. I genuinely remember seeing high mileage (60-70k?) F360 and 911's below 25k...

A friend of colleagues' even offered me a Classic SC (1970s) in low 10k back in 2009, he was being relocated due to job-losses.

I think early 2012, all classic market went bonkers again (up).

Looking at the news and current world situation today though, -strangely working from home for the first time in 3 years- I'm not sure if there is anyone out there who would even paid half of what's currently being asked for poverty porks...
