If that means they can continue to give us cars like the new Boxster and the 918, then I'm all for it.

BMW are the modern Ford? I'll agree to that.

Yep too right. 'Everyone' has a '3'.

The Mondeo is more rare (rarer) than the 3 series.

642k 3 series on the road and 601k mondeos in 2011.

Fixed that for you.

It's cars like this Macan/sub 4/4 that are putting me off another Porsche.
VW are diluting the brand.

Disagree, they are building (more) profit that can be directed into the 'core' vehicles. The SUVs are ther to generate income. The Cayenne saved Porsche, without it the 991 would not have happened.

This is a real concern for Porsche, they must tread carefully with their image and buyers perception. I would though, be interested in why it puts YOU off buying a Porsche?

Personally, it doesn't bother me in the slightest, as long as they keep making great sports cars like the GT3 etc. in fact it's these brand stretching posing pouches that allow them to make proper cars and go racing etc.

Keep em coming I say.

These are the people porsche are now chasing. You cant blame them but this market is fickle and you can go from hero to zero in minutes.

But i think porsche can play this game as well as anyone else.

I realise that Porsche or should I say VW are in business to make money, but they have dilluted the marque to the point where the cars are no-longer rare as they once were.
I can see where you are both coming from, but I have to say, I did prefer it when they were rarer.
As for going racing, Porsche seem to have forgotten their routes. It was 1998 when they last won at Le Mans.

Hi bob wink

I too remember when Porsche was exclusive, unique and very special. I can't remember as far back as you of course, my comparative youth precludes that.

The world is very different now and Porsche as it was would not survive today. The compromise is vw ownership and blingy models for orange middle aged women.

But, I am with you on racing, they can only profit from past success for so long. They need to walk not talk! And soon.

Some posters are very quick to forget that Porsche almost became VERY VERY exclusive in the 90s with production cut to zero cars per annum.

I'm not saying that Porsche are getting it wrong, I am just saying I prefered it when they were rarer. My first encounter with anything Porsche was when we had the Top Trump cards at school. I was only 12 and was really taken with the shape of the 911, something I had never seen before. I was taken to the 1976 or 77 motorshow and stood there looking at the white Martini decaled cars on the Porsche stand, I was captivated. When I was at college, I was told of a 911 parked nearby, I walked 20 minutes just to see it. Now aged 51, I can stand on almost any city street corner and see the whole Porsche range within an hour. Maybe I am stuck in the past and thats why I drive an air cooled 911, but I feel there was just something magical about them when they were rare.

Do you remember Fast Lane Cars in Standish? I used go in there nearly every day after school! It was mostly Fords of course, but they had them all! I remember them getting the original Cosworth and the RS200. Porsches were completely off my radar as I thought them unattainable! They were other worldly.

When you get older, you just cant recreate that sense of childish wonderment!

There was also a place near Chorley that had a Viper in the showroom covered in dust.

Have a look in the for sale section, I think you may find it there (Ron Hodgson Specialist Cars).
