So the exact opposite of what I do yet both practices apparently work equally well biggrin
You are using soap/detergent and, as a result, have to re-proof your roof.
Indeed - As I said, two equally valid approaches to maintaining the hood fabric. confused

Classic Healey 3000 with Double Duck, 13 year old Griffith (had from new), 8 year old Alfa Spider and now my Boxster. Always the same, always look good and perfectly water tight. Even the TVR wink

I haven't washed my roof properly in over a year.
It's only ever had a quick wipe with a mildly damp cloth where needed. (fortunately no bird has ever shat on it, and if she did, I wouldn't take her again)

Cracking Spec,

You will love it - the only downside is cleaning the brake dust but that gives you an excuse to keep it looking top notch.

Sports exhaust is the one defining thing that I love and could not have forgiven myself if I had not waited for it.

Purchaser alert!

Beware the Bose stereo with Sport steering wheel!

  • Bose does NOT have the speed variable volume control fitted to lesser stereos. It's supposed to adjust the sound automatically but it just doesn't work properly. Every time you slow down you'll need to turn down the volume.
  • Sport streering wheel has no volume control - even though you can change CD tracks on the lever.
  • Volume control on the stereo is over the passenger side of the car (handy for driver of LHD cars, not so for Brits) and obstructed by the gear shift lever.
I strongly recommend the lesser stereo or multi-function steering wheel.

So the problem is the Bose, not the wheel?

I hope that sports exhaust sounds so good I won't want to listen to the radio .

After reading through all these posts I have finally ordered my car.
I found some of the comments really useful although in the end it is a matter of personal preference and had to go with my gut!
The problem with the long lead time is now plenty of time to doubt my choices and change my mind.
I shall try and stay strong and stick to my guns.
So here it is:

Boxster S
Red Cabriolet Roof
Agate Grey Metallic
Agate Grey / Pebble Grey Leather
Mesh wind deflector
Top tinted windscreen
ParkAssist front and rear
Electrically retractable exterior mirrors
Automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor
Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
Sport Chrono Package
Sports exhaust system
20-inch Carrera Classic wheel
Seat heating
Cruise control
Seat ventilation
2-zone automatic air conditioning
Light design package
Floor mats
Sports seats, electrical (14-way) with memory package
SportDesign steering wheel
Leather centre console trim
Preparation for mobile phone
BOSE® Surround Sound System
Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module with universal audio interface

I will really miss my in car DAB and have spent too many hours searching solutions to add to the PCM.
If anyone has come up with a neat solution for DAB then please share.

Thanks.

strange .. Audio Pilot on my 981's BOSE works well .. much better than it did on the RS60 that I had!

eek So are you saying the Boxster can't be supplied with a DAB radio? Seems odd?

st, my wife complained (would you believe) when I bought her 987 because it didn't have DAB so she can't get BBC 5 Live+ - which is where all the cricket is and most of the sport. She'll be really pissed off if I swap it for a 981 and still no DAB hehe

Call Greg at Auto Audio for advice as they do DAB in a lot of high end cars and GB send their cars to them for iPod kits etc.

Yes, there is no DAB option for the Boxster.
The only Porsche with factory fit DAB option is the Cayenne and this is only just released.
As the PCM is the same I tried to get it as an option but no joy...I guess the issue is where they would put the aerial.
The same problem will be there even if I find a suitable solution, where to fit an aerial that will be effective but concealed.

Is that it? I hadn't realised. What are DAB car radio aerials usually like? I assumed they were in the windscreen and that's where the Boxster one is anyway.

i had my first drive in a 2.7 PDK at the weekend, I really liked it, was a little worried it would feel a bit lethargic after the 911, but i seems fast enough in normal driving - just waiting on some figures now smile

Also I was quite surprised that in sport mode it did auto-blip on the down changes, this car didn't have SC i though auto-blip was reserved for "sport plus"

Silver with brown eh? Could be interesting...
Just spotted this. I have also just specified and ordered a Platinum Silver 981 with Espresso Natural Leather and Brown Hood. I used to have a 997 in GT silver with Cocoa Natural Leather ( v similar to Espresso) - very nice combination. I always make a point not to buy a car with a black interior - boring. Espresso is the thinking mans choice but respect it's all down to personal taste! Also had a close shave on the climate - hard to believe it's not standard and salesman didn't point it out, but guess that's how my base Boxster has reached £50k plus and Porsche make so much money!

Would just like to say the my local OPC (Silverstone) lent me a platinum silver 981 with espresso natural leather interior. Looked stunning. You won't be disappointed!
