It's been like this all year. No, it's been far more sunny than this. Scotland has exported its weather to northern England for 2012. Hope you enjoyed the Bealach na Ba. Often it's a tad too busy to really appreciate.

Superb posting sir. Interested to hear you tell Phooey that you wouldn't swap out of the Turbo S, but then you mention that if you were in the market now you'd opt for a 991S, could you clarify?

Was thinking the same...maybe because now he has felt and become accustomed to that turbo shove he can't go back!!

You know what they say...once you go turbo you can't go back!

From experience of driving the Turbo S and 991 recently, i have to agree - mhh has confirmed my thoughts of the 2 cars. I used to be a die-hard N/A fan only, but Porsche have made the Turbo S soooo good, it's hard not to be impressed. The turbo is proper giggle-fast, now sounds as good as it goes, goes as good as it looks, and is pretty looking with the Spyder wheels and gen2 revisions to bumpers etc.

As an *everyday* car i think the 991 - with it's much-improved (IMHO) interior, superb comfort, and faultless on-road abilities, would be the car to have. Give it some rag, and it becomes clear what Porsche have done to the 911. It's incredible.

But, as a weekend/occasional car (like i would use it) the Turbo S looks, and delivers a bit more excitement. It's the car i hanker after more. Maybe the adrenalin rush of the warp-speed would wear after a while... who knows? But for now, and for near similar money, the Turbo gets my vote.

991 Turbo will be even better....

Mhh, I may be too late to the thread, but keep going north all the way to Rhiconich. Last super unleaded petrol is at the Gleanor petrol station in Ullapool. Fabulous and quiet roads.

Yes, I went to Rhiconich - and also to Drumbeg, then Durness and now overnighting in Inverness.

I need to do a trip up to bonnie Scotland when I get my next fast thing. Don't think the 1M warrants a needless 900 mile blat.

Mostly because I prefer to buy new cars. But the overtaking grunt of the Turbo cars would be always on my mind.

Phooey, I was thinking about that a lot today. The answer is I wouldn't swap my Turbo S for the 991 Carrera S (mostly because of the power - duh - and the steering feel) but I wouldn't like to have to chase a well driven C2S in my Turbo. And, if I was in the market (was there a thread about this?) for a car today, I'd probably choose the C2S. The chassis of the 991 feels much more composed. It actually reminds me of the 458 in terms of poise over midcorner bumps. I've nearly had a couple of moments in my Turbo over bumps that the 991 would shrug off. Some of the single track stuff today would seriously unsettle a 997 at the same pace.
I frequently get the front end bounce problem on my 997.2 porsche turbo when really going for it. Though unsettling, it doesn't seem to cause loss of traction. The 991 is unbelievable on 20" wheels and bumpy road - a game changer for me. I'm not sure a 991 would keep up with a 997.2 turbo s on a fast A road. These cars seem to leave most in the previous postcode particularly on a damp day. On a dry twisty Bumpy B road, I think the 991 may have the edge - definitely more confidence inspiring.

I went through there on Monday on my way to Skye. I'm not sure where I'm going tomorrow, but I fly home on Saturday. frown

I've been doing Scotland every March with a group of PHers for the last 7 years. You are not going to go far wrong with Jackals route of roughly.

Inverness
W to Nairn
S to Tomintoul
S to A93
W to Braemar
SW to Pitlochry
W to Aberfeldy
S to Crieff
past Gleneagles (lunch stop?), Motorway to south of Edinburgh
Cross country SW on A701 to Moffat
Pick up M6 south at jcn 15.

Thurs night find a hotel just off the M6.
Friday to London.

Have fun.
