Guys, check out Jethro Bovingdon's latest Car and Driver video. It's a cracking comparison video and has great footage.

I think the Boxster S doing 0-60 in 4.4 seconds is just unreal, what would the PDK do? 4.2 secs?

Yes, very interesting. I've come from 2.9 PDK Boxster to 3.4 PDK 991 (Cab). Even before I bought the 911 I imagined I'd probably go back to Boxster. I miss my Boxster with it's nimbleness. The 991 feels like a big lump. It does sound good though and goes better. Even one of the salesmen said I should go for the Boxster and save myself £35k. But, I had to get rid of that pesky 911 itch!

great vid, lol I've got doubts about ordering a 2.7 now!

my 997.1 C2S ran a 12.8 @107.5 mph at the pod last year, I'm very suprised at the Box's 110mph terminal... would be nice to see an manual and PDK side by side

That a manual 997.1 C2S? Completely standard or any weight reduction like ceramics, aero etc? Seems a fast time! smile

Really interesting, thanks for posting. Funny to also see how decent track drivers don't seem to mind a manual box... ;-)

Nice vid, thanks for posting, further evidence of just how great the new boxster is, will defo consider when i go shopping next yr. Theres something really great and honest about the vanilla, manual carrera and would be my choice of the current 991s, altho faster etc i just couldnt justify the extra for a spec d up S.

Boxster is looking more attractive, and a lot less girlie than before. I saw one at the dealership about a month ago, and really liked the car.

Would be very interesting to see, hopefully one of the car mags will do a comparison test.

Yes. Another 0.2s would be absolutely brilliant and so useful. And you couldn't even fluff your gear change. ;-)

I reckon you'd see a 3.9 using LC, providing the car doesn't lose any traction. 991 C2S PDK with launch = 3.5, and after launching one at the weekend, i can quite believe. It's like being fired from a catapult. The 991 does have the advantage of weight and tyre surface area though.

I actually doubt the PDK would be any quicker. It would be more consistent, yes, as every launch using the LC would be perfect. But, if-and-when you do get that occasional, perfect launch using a manual box, where's the difference? Importantly, the manual 'box car is lighter too. (Boxster uses a proper, relatively-light-weight, manual box; not an overweight PDK with a manual shift kit bolted-on like 991). Weight, I would think, matters a LOT for this kind of drag racing stuff.

I would think the actual shift time so loss of drive with a PDK would be far less than a human could muster.

Indeed, but offset by the lighter weight of the manual car. Only one gearchange to 60 too. That's why I don't really think the two would be any different to 60mph, given a perfect lauch by the manual car/driver.

PDK will also change gear at exactly the right point in the rev range which is something a human cannot do without fear of entering the forbidden zone - unless it's not their own car I which case they would not care.

I very much fancy a 981 Boxster in a couple of years once they have dumped a bit of value. Cracking cars by the looks of things, do you really need anything faster? I dont think i do.

Sounds good!

Can I ask what RPM you launched with and did you just sidestep the clutch or ease it out?
