Scoms car is more powerful but less original so in my eyes they equal out each other. They seem to see it just one way by that pricing.

Shame about the 911 car. They advertised it without a price for some time.

I think cabs are hard to value as there is a limited market for them. I think its a bit strong, but if its really properly mint then maybe?

I have never seen a black one before either. You can keep those wheels though, dont like em.

My crystal ball reckons we'll be seeing nice privately-owned Manual C2 Varioram Coupes with aircon and all the major work done, nudging £30k next year, with pre-variorams around £25k. As you know, they cost a bomb to maintain and I don't think owners will let them go cheap unless they're desperate, which many owners won't be.

I wish I'd bought the 993 Turbo from 911 Virgin a few years ago for £35k (?). Seemed a lot at the time.

Blimey, I couldn't give a damn on what they are worth in a year, but similar specced 993s, one varioram and the other not. 5K difference for 12 horses? That's a bigger gap than the perceived extra cost for a later motor me thinks .....

Agree with Wozy. Pre or post varioram won't make any difference. Condition and mileage is the key.

Whilst i agree that it shouldnt make a difference, the fact is that it just does.

I say buy on condition only, but the market says otherwise. Low miles and vario adds value.

A lot of Irish 993's ( relative to size of our market ) have been sold to the UK in the past 12 months. Irish prices are depressed due to a stupid green element in government from 2006-2011 increasing the Annual Road Tax on such cars to circa £1500 and other factors. Just this evening a UK buyer flew in and collected his 993 Targa very like this one. Very sad situation. And yes, 993's are increasing in value in the UK as they are a very good example of a 911.

I know this car. I doubt you'd be disappointed.

Looks like the black low mileage Targa is back for sale?

Now this one is also available http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

The more time passes the more these cars will be worth by simple virtue of them being desirable and supply increasingly limited. Low miles cars in sought after colour schemes will continue to warrant £25k plus regardless.

The only factor to change this is, IMHO, if the cars use in certain locations becomes prohibited due to emsissions. How long before a good gen 2 997 is at price pariity with a similarly good 993?

993's are a niche within a niche, nicer looking cars but that's about it over a gen2 997.

The 993 is Expensive to maintain in a1 condition, most peeps will argue they can be run on buttons but they don't keep them in a1 condition.

The 993s Jzm have in are usually a1 and priced accordingly.

I would not buy one as an investment as they are too hard to to liquidate should you need the money. A couple of guys on my desk own 993 turbos and trying to shift them pre-occupies a decent chunk of their spare time.

I would not buy one to drive as apart from the 993 gt2 I do not find them inspiring like a 964 or 997. More likely to see one being polished than driven.

If I wanted to take a punt on cheap pork it would be the 996 c2 with Amber's and all the work done.

I want to own a 993 because it looks the best 911 to me at the moment and I'm bored of driving new cars that 90% of the time I can't exploit the performance of. I'm looking forward to ringing the neck of a 993.

I agree though if your looking for a punt then the 996 c2 manual is the way to go.

The narrowbody 996 Carrera is looking better by the day. Almost all of them have had clear indicator lenses fitted but it's amazing how much better they look with the original amber items. It's such a clean, harmonious shape. I think history will be kind to it. It's certainly a much better design than the 997.

I am going to get shot for this but here goes. I am fortunate enough to own a few cars and I drive them all as often as I can. The other day I took the covers off my 993 C2 which is in top nick with lots of recent body and engine work etc and 95000 miles on the clock. The car had not run for 4 months and it started first time and felt as tight as the first day it was run. The car looks great, sounds wonderful and it just feels that the engine chassis and all systems meet perfectly. If I had a fast 5 mile run to do in the country lanes where I live, I would chose this car over any other I have. It just feels great. If I had to sell one of the cars I own - adios 997 Gen 2 Turbo - as great as it is to me it is just a car whereas the 993C2 feels part of the family. Sorry!! smile

Yep, lovely car and thanks for taking time to maintain the running costs pages for your cars, not many people do that.

I see that you state under description, that you will never sell it.

I'm in total agreement. Lovely beautiful car that does indeed need a small fortune to keep tiptop. But its the best Porsche I have ever owned, every trip is an adventure, driving at 40 is pleasurable, driving at near 160 on the autobahn is bloody fantastic and still stable.. .
I will only ever sell mine if I am so desperate for money, and I've already sold everything else.
Rising values? I couldn't give a damn about it.

Couldn’t agree more!

Wozy and I own two of the first ever UK registered 993s, I've had mine for 15-years this month!

I drive mine several times a week, mostly for pleasure, and I too have spent a fair amount on it over the years, including a relatively recent full body restoration. However, as I have no intention of selling it until I am too old and doddery to drive it with enthusiasm, I consider the annual cost of upkeep and maintenance a justifiable expense, and certainly it's a lot cheaper than any modern Pork PCP rental agreement!

Furthermore, during my long 993 ownership, having test driven lots of other motors, including most of the water cooled Pork range, plus Ferraris, Mercs, BMs, etc, I can honestly say that (for my budget) I‘ve not found anything yet that would provide me with the same mix of practicality and pleasure as my beloved 993 does.

PS: Regarding being part of the family, my grandkids love riding in the back, and one of them (10 years old now) recently asked if I would give it to her when I'm too ancient to drive, so that when she has kids of her own they in turn could ride in the back! Cheeky monkey!

I sent my 35k mile 993 Cabrio down to Paragon for its annual service and with it being out of sight and out of mind I (almost) sold it to them. However after having posted the spare key and the V5 I changed my mind and sold my V12 Vantage instead. This is how these old 993 do your head in. It is now safely back in the garage. For around 30k there is not a better car out there and I think people are starting to discover that now.
