My 997.2 shows System Version: V. Surely that's incomplete?

That's exactly what mine showed prior to the update - a completely missing version number, just the 'V' with nothing following it. My car's also a relatively early Gen 2 (Jan 2010 registered 997S, so 2009 build). I'm wondering if the missing version number is just an error in an early version of the firmware installed on PCM3. Once the update was installed, the version was correctly displayed - in my case showing 'v2.24'.

Does anyone know if v2.24 is still the update being installed to 9x7 PCM3s? Or has Porsche released any newer maps/firmware since I started the thread?

Mine was done a week ago at OPC Sheffield using a new (specifically ordered for the job) disk, and my S/w revision is 2.24

How can it be a bargin. .

The whole PCM thing is st to not have full post code in a newer touch screen car.

As for taking 6 hours, just goes to show what old tech these systems are that you cannot just flash one from a flash drive in a few minutes.

Yes I,ll get it done because it will never be this cheap again, I just feel when you spec a 2.5k system and porsche make 13k per car sale, we have to pay to get a working sat nav.
Interesting points and totally agree a car of this calibre... Or in fact any newish car... Should come with a fully functioning sat Nav as standard. It's frightening how poor in built sat navs are given the power of
Google Maps and Apple Maps on our phones. The sat Nav on the 3 series BMW is shockingly bad and totally confusing to follow!

Btw where did you get your £13k statistic from? It's interesting for sure

Many thanks for the reply. Good to know I don't need to pay Porsche for yet another update!

A 'V' on its own means you have the basic first generation software in and it has never had an update!

They may well have put the prices up. To be sure I would call an OPC that did the £150 update. I did it at Guildford back in April / May. Give them a call see what they quote you.

OPC may do a better deal if your car is in for a service?

I'm planning to ask the question when my car is in an OPC on Monday, if any map updates have been available or are due.

My recent trip has shown just how out of date the maps are already - French roads, and whole sections of autobahn which did not exist, as well as attempting to guide me down one way streets near the main staion in Munich.

We updated the maps/software and first Euro trip showed it to be out of date. Tomtom largely does a better job. Glad it was cheap.

All inbuilt sat navs are rubbish, about to change with later types, but for the current lot a tom Tom is far superior especially if you regularly update the camera warnings from someone like ' The PocketGPSWorld ' website who update almost weekly.

Also consider Waze if you have a smartphone. Good camera alerts and realtime roadworks and congestion updates because it's updated by the community. Also the search is second to none.

I tend to use Waze too on long journeys but having the turn-by-turn in the middle of the dash is incredibly convenient, especially if you're pushing on.

A bit of a thread resurrection I know.

Reading through this thread it seems that the PCM 3 update for the 997.2 installs SW v2.24, going back to updates done from around the end of 2013. I got my OPC to do the £150 upgrade back in July 2014 and checking my PCM screen yesterday the SW version is V2.20.

Have I been short changed? Would be interested to hear whether anyone else has v2.20 or what is the difference between v2.20 and v2.24. My car is a 4 GTS variant but can't see that this makes a difference.

I know I should be out driving the thing not looking at PCM screens but there you go.

Anyone know what the latest available software version is for a Cayenne, and do the SW versions differ between Cayenne and 991/Boxster/Cayman as it seems these have a 2 the others 4. My Csyenne is 4.76.

I enquired about this at OPC Portsmouth recently and found the £150 offer is still available. Quite surprised. So my 2010 C4S is going in next week, ahead of a fairly major French roadtrip, so wil see how up to date it really is, I guess!
