As for 991 dimensions, they really are a whole different car to the preceding 996/7 platform. Width, length, height, track, wheelbase and wheel diameters, all add up to a huge step forward in performance.
Corner speeds between the 991 and 997/996 GTs are not very different. the big advantage of the 991s is in acceleration and the 'huge step of performance' is much more from ease of accessibility of that performance (electronics) than chassis changes imo.ras62 said:
Simply making the car bigger you reach a point where it becomes a hindrance for a road car. I would say the 991 has already reached that point on many roads I use. Simply too big to enjoy.
Looking at them I also thought there was a massive difference between 991 and 997. The 991 looks much bulkier to my eyes. But there isn't.These are 991.2 4S versus 997.2 4S (it's important to compare like for like models). The below from Carfolio so may be some wiggle room.
Width (most important for b-road blasting feel IMO) : 1852mm versus 1852mm
Wheelbase : 2450mm versus 2350mm (will contribute to handling but most beneficial here is cabin space)
Length : 4519mm versus 4435mm (ditto the above)
Height : 1300mm versus 1300mm
Track (ff) : 1589mm versus 1488mm (an interesting change, mostly down to bigger wheels? And adjustable to a point, especially bearing in mind the overall widths)
Track (rr) : 1557mm versus 1548mm (also interesting...)
Weight : 1565kg versus 1480kg (this bit's a shame but I guess inevitable consider the length increase and, I suspect, new regulations needing to be met)
I haven't driven a 991, but it will be interesting to see how much more "GT" they are. If they are noticeably so, I'd bet most of that is down to the cabin layout and bigger wheels, followed by the track changes altering the "pointiness" of the car.
