2018 Cayenne bets?......

While we are on this thread...I have placed a deposit a few weeks back for the new Cayenne but obviously have a long time to change my mind about spec. So a couple of other questions:
- am going for the basic V6. Partly because of cost, partly because the Cayenne will be more of a family car (if I want speed I also have an F-Type S). But am I going to regret this? Reviews say the S is the sweet spot of the range.
- any views on whether the sports chrono package is worth it? My thinking is it may bridge some of the gap between the S and the basic.
I think there are better places to spend your money on Sports Chrono on a Cayenne...unless it brings other benefits than a slightly sharper feeling accelerator pedal. - am going for the basic V6. On the current car going S in Diesel form at least is a big difference you go from a 6 cylinder to a V8 Diesel. On the new car both engines are 6 cylinder units so I am guessing quite similar in character.
Personally I'd rather have a specced basic V6 than a V6 S without some of the spec I think really make a difference to these cars.
I suspect the main advantage of spending £700 on Sport Chrono on the new Cayenne will be the mode switch on the steering wheel. I can't see myself using launch control too often with two kids, a load of bikes, or a wardrobe in the back :-) Having said that, you do get an extra Sports Plus mode, as well as the ability to set up a customised profile, so you could have sport engine and transmission response with the default chassis stiffness with one press.
I've gone for the 'S', on the basis that I've spent the past 3.5 years with a 3.0 Diesel Cayenne thinking "This thing needs more power. A *lot* more power." The unanimous love for the current V8 Diesel demonstrates that the chassis can certainly handle more power and torque, but I'm looking forward to how it handles with near on 450bhp but less weight in the nose than either of the diesels. The 2.9 'S' motor is a brand new design, basically the same engine as used in the new Audi RS5 and RS4, with twin turbos inside the V of the engine, and is about 100bhp and 100lb.ft up on the single turbo 3.0 engine in the base Cayenne. Both engines have almost exactly the same CO2 and fuel consumption figures, so it's a question of the up-front cost rather than running costs.

p.s. Here's the full list of gizmos bundled under "Sports Chrono":
– Analogue and digital stopwatch
– Mode switch on the steering wheel to select the driving modes normal, SPORT, SPORT PLUS and individual mode
– SPORT PLUS Mode with performance-oriented settings for engine, gearbox and chassis
– Individual mode for personalised selection of sport vehicle settings
– Performance indicator
– SPORT Response Button with performance-oriented settings for engine and transmission at the touch of a button
– Activation of the performance start in SPORT PLUS mode
– Expansion of Porsche Stability Management (PSM) by a SPORT mode

More options on the new Cayenne now on Configurator

Great but I'm still unsure what model to go for. Hybrid is probably the way forward but I'm nit sure I can be arsed with plugging it in! Saj
Wait till the dealers have them and try, last time round tried the Hybrid, really did not like it at all, but of course things do move on

Definitely not for you then...only really makes sense if you can charge it frequently. If your drive to work is 20 miles and you can charge at work makes a load of sense.
I don't have a drive to work. We'll just be using it as a family wagon.I'm not interested in using it on battery only power as it's not an electric car so it would be in combo mode all the time.
How many miles should i expect before I'd need to charge it say a long 4 hour run from South to North Wales?
I just don't want to be in a situation where the battery has depleted and i'm then relying on a relatively lower power petrol engine for the last leg of the journey?
I take it that it should easily do over 200 miles of fast A road driving in combo mode? I have no clue about hybrids as you can see!
I am still waiting for the hybrid to come out, which is getting a little frustrating having spec'd a S up countless time.
Like others my essential options are 21's (loving the new ones added to the config), air, panaramic roof, 18 ways, Bose and full leather.
More options are defiantly ticks but they are all nice haves rather than essentials.

Just had the preview night invite from my OPC, 20th March.
Car goes officially on sale on April.
Me too, 16th March, although I have already ordered one, due MayCar goes officially on sale on April.

My OPC initially suggested this as a viewing when they forgot to tell me when the press car was in for customers to see :/ Order would have been locked down by then so ended up seeing one at their HQ.
Just stuck a deposit down today for November/December delivery.
First porsche purchase for me, coming from a modest 5 series but I’ve been doing well at business so I’ve decided to enjoy it after 10 years hard work.
I’ve went for (so far)
3L V6
21 RS spider wheels
PASM (air suspension, I want comfy ride)
Black
privacy glass
Roof rails in aluminium and storage
heated seats
bose
Got an invite to the launch/open night so will go along and have a good look then plenty of time to test drive and finalise spec.
Not sure about the panoramic roof or if I should upgrade the seats/ leather. Having never had a porsche unsure if it’s needed or will affect resale?

Well done, we all deserve to treat ourselves from time to time, there is a Cayenne Diesel thread on here, I would suggest to read through when you have an hour or so free, options etc where discussed in detail.First porsche purchase for me, coming from a modest 5 series but I’ve been doing well at business so I’ve decided to enjoy it after 10 years hard work.

Got an order in as well for April build. Will be my first SUV, much prefer cars and low slung coupes/sports cars at that, but growing family dictates. So figured I'd get the SUV that is the most engaging to drive as a compromise.First porsche purchase for me, coming from a modest 5 series but I’ve been doing well at business so I’ve decided to enjoy it after 10 years hard work.

1) PASM you might want to get a test drive to see if you need AIR. Many suggest its a must, others suggest PASM alone is enough. One advantage of AIR is you can adjust ride height, so sit it low to make those 21s fill the arches even more I've gone for the 21" Turbo Design alloys, which looked great on the press car.
2) Not a fan of Panoramic roofs. Find them distracting (current car has large sunroof/panoroof which has remained closed) and its a lot of weight in the worst place possible. Again some will suggest its a must for resale. I discussed this with the sales manager and they usually specify it, but he didn't feel it would significantly affect resale. I took that to mean spec it for yourself, no need to spec for the next owner.
3) Roof rails can't be added later. This he suggested was a good box to tick for resale, as he's never had someone reject a car due to it having rails, whereas he see's the opposite quite often.
4) I've been dithering on sport design kit to get rid of the black plastic exterior trim. This can be done after the fact though, with a kit or having the trim sprayed I guess. Plus with a black car it will show up less then on a white car.
5) Might want to consider dipping mirrors if you drive a lot at night and headlight glare annoys you.
6) I've added surround view in the hope it protects the alloys from the Mrs (and me, but don't tell her that ).
7) I like the 18way seats. But it means the rear bench isn't flat (google it, easier then explaining). Since the outer seats will be occupied with car seats, I didn't want to compromise the comfort of the middle seat (the only one that will be useable in my car) even further. I don't need the additional adjustment of the 14 way (never touched the lumber settings on my current BMW comfort seats) so they only really offered me the front seat memory as aesthetically they are virtually the same as the standard 8 ways. I just ended up sticking to the standard seats and specifying driver memory instead.
8) For the extended leather take a look at with and without. You have plenty of time to make the decision.
Thats my 2 cents, having been back and forth with spec deadline looming. But its my first one, so no expert
