991 GT3 now or later
Discussion
A colleague of mine is selling his 2014 991 GT3 for 138k he is open and says he bought new for 112k. I can probably get it for 134. My question is would it be a risk buying this now with the new model coming out next year? I don't mind taking a little hit but at the same time don't want to say lose 30k in a space of a few months. Saying that the gen 2 991 turbo S didn't affect the price of gen 1 991 turbo S too much. What the consensus? Thanks!
For you to take a bath of £30k in a few months will need something very different to a new gen model coming out. It will need a macro economic melt down. Something like trump winning, or China's credit bubble exploding, or the EU disintegrating... However, expecting a gentle down drift would be sensible. Anything better is a bonus.
depends if the new one is limited, if not just order a new one for £115k ! it's out in March.
Cannot see current prices staying how they are, but who can tell.
new one will have the Apple iplay a working engine and the much nicer smaller steering wheel.
I think you would be mad myself. but only you know if you want it now or not.

The Gen 2 will be better. Always is.
You could assume all Gen 1 cars will suddenly lose £19k (comparing the above figures) - at least. However, if Chris Harris declares the Gen 2 the best thing since sliced bread, what was a £115k list car will then be a £150k on the used market, which will mean Gen 1 residuals are saved.
It comes down to how many Porsche make. If they make ample Gen 2s, then the Gen 1 undoubtedly face a hit.
Depends if you can declare YOLO on the risk of losing £20k. But then you seem to be basing this decision on negotiating a 'mere' £4k discount from your mate...
I imagine, if it hasn't already, the GT3 market has somewhat frozen. No way i'd buy one right now until the Gen 2 is out, even if i really, really wanted one.

The other issue for a 991.1 purchaser is the GT3s history having regard to any track use, possible limitations or even voiding of warranty as a consequence.
Maccas early car is on its 3rd engine, the valvetrain issues (e.g) on frequently maxish rev cars are clearly an issue.
Next gen car likely to have 4 litres but lower rev limit although whether this results in engine issues persisting remains to be seen considering the similar engined 991 RS is evidently affected in the same way as the GT3.
Obtaining a next gen GT3 allocation could also be a problem unless you have a broad buying history with your OPC.

Assuming that you can't get a 991.2 GT3, then a Gen 1 with full service history and Porsche warranty would be a good second choice, but it seems massively over-priced to me.
As someone stated, a £112k car is fairly lowly specced - mine was closer to £125k new - and I wouldn't be expecting to get more than £125k now if I was to sell. I think your 'mate' is asking £15k too much (and maybe focussing too much on list prices at dealers, not private sale prices).

I would buy one now. There is no point waiting. You won't take a bath. It will depreciate. As for buying your friends car. It is over priced.

And rybrook Birmingham has one for 128k which they would reduce because they have had it for 5 months

Thanks for your responses, some were very amusing. Will speak to my OPC first to see if I can get a new one and how long it will take. My turbo is boring me to death so would be good to change. Looking at porsches site they all seem to be aroond that price.

As others have said £134k ish for a private sale is just nonsense unless it's an amazing spec CS in a PTS colour, which it apparently isn't.
Regardless of how long the list your OPC already has is if you're a good customer you have a chance. Given you've got a Turbo S on the drive I am sure you've got a better chance than most people. That Turbo S is £10k of profit as a used car for them as a start!

Surely the point is that the prices listed on the Porsche website will have some room for negotiation and you wouldn't expect to pay as much under a private sale as you would at a dealer.Honda- 134 was what my colleague had hinted in conversation
If your colleague tried to sell his car to the OPC, then £120k is probably more realistic, I would guess.
You wont get a gen2 991 GT3 new unless you have had your name down for at least 2 years, or have a buying history (that includes at least half a dozen new cars from them) or you are the bloody luckiest man alive
as said above £134k is super strong money for a 991 GT3 in todays mkt unless it a unique colour, high spec, club sport and very low miles - £112k list suggests it not this.
Ring a dealership and ask them for a cash buy now price for it and I would expect they will be offer near as dammit list.
cheers

I've just purchased 991 Gt3 RS and got a good discount on OPC lprice, I initially was looking for a Gt3 and was offered one or two good discounts on Opc cars. My point is if you go to your dealer with cash you'll end up spending a lot less than the deal your pal is offering for a similar car with all the dealer benefits.
