If the bores are Nikasil, it doesn't really matter what the pistons are coated with, as the fragments of silicon that cause the coating to break away won't be coming out of the bore surface like it does on lokasil. But yeah, if you've got the block apart, it makes sense to do them all - sell a kidney if needs be.
£2500 + vat gets you six Nikasil liners in the block - I think my plan is to get my engine out myself, strip it, get the block done (to 3.7) and then rebuild it myself. Saves £3500 + VAT of labour that I know I can do myself (and would be rather interesting as I've not rebuilt a boxer engine before), and means the car can stay at home in bits whilst the block halves are machined.

Ahh, I get ya.Yeah, seems like a ridiculous false economy to me, as it'll all need to come apart again in due course. The back is broken on the job by getting the engine out and splitting it, really.
The receipt above is to a dealer.

I generally believe most of these minor rebuilds are paid for by dealers who need to make a repair economically. Probably because they've been stung by taking a lemon in part ex or been testing the car prior to sale and its gone boom.

Indeed. I wouldn't buy such a car.The receipt above is to a dealer.
It also depends upon how much of the engine has been rebuilt, having all 6 cylinders sorted out is worth more than if only 1 or liners are replaced, not all Hartech rebuilds are equal.
Not to mention the IMS which can completely lunch an engine and the RMS.
Always buyer beware with these cars.

There is this cat d 4s manual which mentions Hartech but no details so could be anything from just a service. Its been for sale for a little while.

Assuming your standard 25% discount for a Cat D, that would be £20K for a 135K mile C4S, which is strong money when you have stuff like this avaiable from a known dealer:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272551257626
