Spotted driving along by the Bentley / Aston / BMW dealerships in Cheltenham - anyone on here the proud owner? Assuming it's now sold....

Looked superb and sounded awesome.

Lovely. They are not investments as per their website. You're paying £95,000 for 3.2 Carreras in drag. I imagine that 930 is much more than this? Lovely bitsas but reality is £95k for a previously leggy and more than likely previously rusty 3.2 at the end of the day...

Interesting! I have no association of any kind with the vendors and enjoyed the sights and sounds briefly for what they were. It is indeed a lovely car to see and hear on the road.

It's been living in Solihull OPC's showroom for the last 3-4 months, so it's not necessarily sold.

Good call.

The reason it was driving along near the Bentley specialist and Aston main dealer aka H R Owen Ecurie Supercar Sales and Service is now clear - it's sitting in their window.

Can't see it on their website as yet however.

Looks stunning. Probably a more usable car than the real thing for less money. It's far cooler than a brand new 991. Which would you choose as a weekend toy?

Saw this parked in a lay-bys near Coome Hill traffic lights last week - attractive in the metal certainly.

Is it me or do those wheels/tyres look wrong?

Compared to the 930 RSR in the original post.

I agree nice reps but most buyers would be better off buying a standard honest rust free Carrera or 964. If you want to optimise all they need is some modern suspension from somewhere like Elephant Racing, a remap from Wayne Schofield at chipwizards, and you're sorted thumbup

Personally if the grey RSR rep is £175,000 I'd rather have a 997.2 GT3 RS. Actually I'd pocket £100k and just buy a normal 997 GT3. For that sort of money on air cooled I'd want a proper old school 964 3.6 turbo,911 3.3 turbo LE or LHD 964 RS.

That's a tough one.

As to the price, it's still in the window of H R Owen Ecurie at £175,000 but hasn't been featured on their website as yet.

Not really a tough one. One car is blue chip investment that matches its unobtainium pricing with driving dynamics not far off a modern cup car.

The other is an RSR rep look 1979 4 speed 911 turbo which is a pretty horrible laggy thing to drive. Complete no brainer as 911 turbos of this vintage are an acquired taste in terms of driving dynamics. Can't fault the way it looks though.

Fair enough, these things are to individual taste and I don't pay any attention to what constitutes an investment. In addition I appreciate the higher order accelerations from a turbo engine more so than the linearity of the unforced induction alternative. We agree on the looks of RSR 930 which go a long way in my book. The thought of having to stare a car in the face (or the backside) pretty much on a daily basis and before/after every drive is a potential deal breaker for me, not that the 997 is ugly but I'd opt for 930 RSR out of these two with brain and heart in agreement in terms of the total potential ownership experience.

Am I right in thinking there is no such thing as a 1979 930 RSR?

I've had a back-date car, constructed by Francis Tutthill....and it was absolutely fantastic.

Pic in my profile.

However, it cost me less than £50k and I sold it for a decent profit.

At the sort of costs currently being charged, you'd have to really, really want one and I doubt they will hold their value long term. Better off with a standard car.

And....if you're thinking of getting one, just make sure you are speaking to someone who knows their stuff..there's lots of overpriced tat out there...

Tarted up and stickered cars with standard engines for nearly £100k...just doesn't make sense to me..

Finally 930 RSR is up on the HR Owen Ecurie website...as POA and with the number plate hidden.
