Not looking good for my 993. Parked the car in front of 2 other cars and 1 of our garage blocks, on
Tuesday evening. At around 11.00pm, we had banging on the front house door. It would
seem that neighbours, were returning , when smoke started appearing from the
rear off the car. One rang 999, the other banged on our door.
Whilst they waited, the car started moving forward and drove itself away from the parked cars and
the garage block.
Gerrards cross fire station is 2 minutes from our house and when i got to the top the fire brigade were
already putting the flames out.
It would seem that the issue was the wiring loom on the rhs of the engine.
The fire officer said that around that area the metal was now white and he has logged it as
an electrical fault.
As we live on a slight slope, i always leave the car in gear. As the loom was burning through, a live
feed went to the starter motor. The car moved away from the other cars and oak garage block,
housing 4 more cars.
The insurance company have been advised by the body shop, by my description , that the car is a write off. Could have been
a lot worse.

Sorry to hear/see that.

Was there not a 'wiring loom recall' on the 993?

Might be completely unconnected.

Really sorry to see that. Brings back painful memories of my 996. Also caused by an electrical fault somehere on the RHS of the engine bay. Also attended to by fire brigade from Gerards X, albeit a couple of years ago now.

I hope your insurance company is as fast and sensible as mine was. Good luck.

Thanks for the comments. Didn't know about the loom recall. Checked today and it seems
that it was for later cars. GX fire station were great, They helped me push the car, so we
could get our other cars out. Attached is a photo from about a month ago next to my S4.

Gutting for you. At least you have the 928.

993 could become a Speedster project!

Sad news, shame to see a car damaged in that way - I guess it could have been much worse though!

Do you have any more pics of the damage? Pretty sure it could all be fixed from what is shown in the first pic. Ask them for salvage options if they do.
