First two editions of 000 Quarterly are superb........
Discussion
Pete Stout whohas been editor of a number of Porsche magazines and more recently edited the club magazine for the Porsche Club of amerce which under his watch was better than most commercial magazines.
His new venture is a quarterly "magazine" , incredibly high quality, 240 pages or so with only a modest amount of advertising . Production quality is superlative and the articles are long and in depth coverage of specific important Porsches and Porsche history....... It is subscription only...
I habe received the prototype and first edition of the quarterly..and of you want to read some really in depth and interesting stuff about Porsches of all ages then I would recommend it. Clearly They clearly have deep access to Porsche and have excellent writers. Not cheap, but truly excellent you are interested in really in depth and well written coverage. (No affiliation on my part)

Looks interesting, like all these things the quality is in the writing. Nice images will get it so far, but the price has to be right.
Not sure if many people want a 'coffee table' Porsche mag.
I think it it definitely a specialist taste so no likelihood of it in the local bookshop.. I have a fairly big Porsche library and it certainly has a place there. I would think of it as something to add to a library rather than as a disposable item. Not sure if many people want a 'coffee table' Porsche mag.

It's more akin to a softcover book than it is a magazine. It is excellent and worth the money in my view. Not sure if many people want a 'coffee table' Porsche mag.

$250 for 4 editions - that's some niche magazine - hope they have deep pockets as I can't see that business model working - I'm out ; but good luck to them - very nice idea
The price in Europe is $350!!! For the posh version with a hardcover this rises to $1'100!!!
That is insane money for a magazine!
I do understand that it takes a lot of money to produce such a magazine, but that is just way off...
Looks like a very nice magazine and I could have been tempted by it for a year if it would be like $150 shipped to the old continent for 4 editions. And that would be very pricey!
Goof luck to them but I really don't see where the longevity is in this. It's a niche beyond a niche....you firstly have to have people that are rich enough with enough spare time to want to spend that much on (very impressive) reading material....they then have to be a car nut....and that car nut has to be mad about Porsche's and not Ferrari's or Bugatti's etc.

All true, but I have a feeling they will succeed in the niche. There are a lot of Porsche owners out there ( the Porsche club of America is about 150,000 alone) and when you think of what people pay you maintaining these cars the money begins to look more reasonable. Yes, you have to be a car nut, AND a reader too. I have a big library of Porsche-related books and I think if this being more library material than a periodical. It is certainly not where you would go for the latest news. In my view Porsche is a lot bigger and less exclusive than Ferrari or Bugatti, but the number of owners and enthusiasts for the brand if quite high.We will see. As usual, its the renewal rate that will count.I am happy so far. ( No did not buy the super-duper edition, but I didn't buy a 918 either).......
Here's a nice little blog that shows some of the layout and images from the 1993 Porsche Boxster Concept feature..

I think this is my first PH post, after years of watching from across the pond, so please direct all vitriol my way. (I hear editors are an endangered species on PH.)
Thanks for the kind words and (fair) questions/criticism. I had similar concerns as I was doing the business model, so I don't blame you. What got me over the hump were questions floated by an advisor: "What do I spend on one front tire for my 911? Or a concert, or a nice dinner out? What did 57,000 people spend to attend Rennsport Reunion V? And how many more would have gone if they had the time?" Perhaps 000 is a crazy project—but after 15 years at Excellence and three more at Panorama, I wondered what something truly different could look like. So 000 isn't based on the usual magazine model, and it isn't for newsstands. At 9x12 and about three pounds, shipping isn't cheap. (In fact, the mailing box costs more per piece than most magazines, simply because I hate damaged spines.) Departments are as long as some of the features I used to run, and a single 000 feature can run 40-50 pages with extensive texts, photography, documents, etc. Currently, issues have 5% advertising, and we've committed to go no higher than 7%.
But that's all facts and figures—you're right that the soul of a magazine is in the quality and character of its content. And anything I'd say there will come from obvious bias. So it's a fair call to ask to read a bit of 000 before taking the plunge. I don't want to treat or present the work of our contributors poorly, however, so let me think about how I might share some 000 words on PH.
Again, thanks—and I wish all of you a good weekend!

I just want to wish you the best of luck. Your costing model is tricky for me - it's not that I can't afford it, I just can't get over the physiological hurdle of the cost I'm afraid - but we are all different and I sincerely hope that others deal with this better than I and it's a success.
If however it doesn't work first off, maybe compromise a little - the odd tweak to costs may put you in a better place - I assume there will be a volume sweet spot as creation costs are fixed and these will not be insignificat : you'll not know until you try though - good luck

Pete,
welcome to PH.
love the work on 000. pls keep up the frank insights and criticism levelled at our beloved porsche automobiles. can't wait for you to start on the 996 and 997 cars (and read about them on 000)
Thanks, HP! And thanks for the support. welcome to PH.

Hmm, that's humorous, as I saw a factory 997 that took my breath away while weighing a GT4 as part of a story in Issue 002. When I looked at the car, which was white, all I could think was "full blown art shoot" (along with a good romp on track and a deep back story). And we've got something special in the works on the 996 era, as well, though that may be a ways off. A writer out of the UK, actually. Story to take place on the mainland. We're just getting started, but this 000 thing is turning out to be pretty fun...
