As title indicates, I cannot shift into 7th gear in my 987.2 Cayman S (PDK) whilst in manual mode when in sport plus. Works in normal sport mode.

Is there a reason for this or something wrong with my transmission??

I haven't tried this in my Macan GTS, but I presume that 7th is deemed a cruising gear and not appropriate for Sport Plus. Google suggests it is normal.

On 981's it's disabled in manual sports+, so assume the same on yours.

I think (but I am guessing here) that 'sport-plus' means you require a sporty response from the engine when you depress the throttle.

Therefore, you need a gear that will give you good acceleration.

7th gear in a PDK box is probably a very L-O-N-G gear and therefore the gearbox has decided that 7th gear is not available as its not a 'sporty' gear thumbup

<troll mode on>
The only thing wrong with your gearbox is its an automatic hehe

Thanks for the insights, but does that not mean my top speed is compromised in sport plus if I'm a gear short?

No.

EDIT: 7th is there for fuel economy. 6th in Sports+ will get you to top speed.

Soon after you come off full throttle in other modes it will usually change to 7th (as this is better for fuel)

7 th gear is like an overdrive, the engine will run slower for a given speed, sports plus assumes you are on a track or driving in a very aggressive manner and therefore maximum speed is not needed, just very fast changes and quick acceleration.
As previous posts, it's all in the manual.

Owners manual states

In "Sport Plus" mode, the PDK transmission changes to a shift program designed for driving on race circuits. 7th gear is not selected.
The gear-changing performance is enhanced significantly again compared with "Sport" mode.

Have you got the sport design steering wheel with the proper paddles or the horrible back to front shift button wheel?

Yes it is, i have topped my 911 out in Sport Plus at i *think* 196mph, to go faster i had to switch to sport to get the 7th gear.

But top speed is reached in 6th gear is it not?
So you'd be slowing down if you switched to 7th.

Nope, hitting the rev limiter in 6th, progression continued once in 7th.

No it doesn't. 7th is an overdrive gear. My 987.2 Boxster S is the same. Car reaches its top speed in 6th. Porsche deem that you will never need an overdrive gear "on track",, which is where Sport plus is mainly used.

But you are talking about a 911, not a 987 Cayman/ Boxster.

997 Carrera certainly does top speed in 6th and I be surprised if the turbo was any different. The GT3 was the first PDK to use 7th for top speed rather than an overdrive as far as I recall.
