brilliant - I remember doing Wiscombe in a Caterham scholarship series almost 20 years ago, alas no where near that fast. proper stuff. people do spout st on here sometimes, criticising Dickie M wheelmanship as well, what a nonsense !
Dickie Meaden is ace.

Did it in a DB4 in 1990, 48.06. I thought there was a yellow RS there in those days.

I see there was also a 'J. Corbyn' then, driving a Jedi. Did a 40.54. Can't be, can it...

Exactly, utter nonsense on her sometimes. Nomex clad track day forum warriors, some classic unsubstantiated opinions here ....

Corbyn i dont know,i doubt it,new 911 record at wiscombe now 41.9 😜,its a tricky place especially when wet!May be some could get there play station out and try it;)

Dickie can clearly handle his 911well ,but would probaly be behind josh in a 911 as you would expect.Having shared a 911 with josh at daytona,i have some incar some where of it.

I think thats a fairly special rs being used, but in fairly standard set up and tyres, sadly what a lot of journos dont experience is a well set up 911 thats had plenty of front end attention.

Looks like i missed a good trip to the alps, off to loton park for the final round of the hillclimb champs this weekend🏁

FWIW, Jochen Mass in an RSR at Daytona: https://youtu.be/6JgggmbboTE quite a bit of correction, but smooth.

Rorhl is strolling through the park. Doren is racing against a far superior and aggressively driven BMW M1 Procar...

In terms of how to drive a 911 - very little to put between the two - Doren is still a personal favourite for achieving so much when cars were scary and lethal...

Edgar Dören is a legend. Won the 24 hour race at the Ring 1988 in a 15 (!) year old 911. If I remember right it was a 1972 car that had been modified and updated to RSR specs over the years. Dören / Faubel / Holup beat, among others, the works teams of Ford (winner of the 24h 1987) and Opel.

Porsche produced a works poster to celebrate:

Also unparalleled his single handed driving and waving to the punters:

As I said, a legend...

Rohrl almost won the 1981 Manx rally in the very same car used in the video I linked to (unfortunately it broke a driveshaft on the final stage and forced him to retire)
Rohrl regularly beat such tarmac specialists as Tony Pond (a Manxman) and Jimmy McRae, he did so in what was effectively a privateer car, and with (IIRC) no previous knowledge of the island roads, something that McRae and Pond had in spades .

https://youtu.be/UQ6HrwIlzXQ

The 'Ring is a stroll in the park when compared with the bumpy Manx roads ....
If you want a more indepth insight as to the true depth of Rohrl's immense talents, have a read of this :

A true legend who still endures.

If being born there makes you a Manxman, I'd concur, if living there makes you one, I stand by my original comment smile
