Maybe those houses are all they need? I live in Oxshott Surrey and see houses worth more than 2 million pounds with a Honda jazz and a 2009 Volvo xc90 in the driveway. Those people could easily afford a Ferrari or whatever but they don’t see the point in them, same way mr 488 & sq7 don’t see the point in having a mansion. Now if the houses were owned by the council or rented, it would be a different story

It is a cultural thing.

Nothing to do with who can or can not afford what.

A 488 Ferrari costs the same wherever you live in the country, a 4 bed semi-detatched can vary in price by several hundred thousand pounds.

However, if this was me I would sell the 488, sell the Q7, sell the house and move out of that area biggrin

I hope we don't see that SQ7 on the evening news raiding a bank and then running into the poor old bill trying to stop in in their 330d's. surely it would play on the home owners mind to have such desirable cars in the prying eye of passing low lifes. But as far as people spending more on cars than homes, well it's not really my place to comment. If it makes them happy, why not? As far as running such cars on finance and living beyond ones means, well we live in a world where displaying wealth even when one doesn't really have it seems to be acceptable. Doesn't sit well with me, but again it feels somewhat pious judging others. Perhaps he/she/they just loves cars, and you can't fault the SQ7 and 488 as an almost perfect two car combo !

Funny how people assume that you’ve maxed out on the cars so can’t afford a befitting house. But when they have an expensive house and average cars people assume that they just don’t see the value in cars. Not that they’ve maxed out on the house and can’t afford a decent car!

I'd make sure I had a private drive and two garages before buying those sorts of cars.
I'd be forever worried that someone would damage them being that close to the road.
At least try your best to profect them.

It does look incongruous when you see a Lamborghini/Fezza parked on the driveway of a suburban 3 bed semi. However, where I grew up in South-London/Surrey the 3 bed semis are now £600k. Twenty years ago those same houses were around £150k. Supercars at the time were probably much closer to the value of the house than they are now...those cars fit in pretty well nowadays.

It takes all sorts. Personally I believe house prices are coming down. Certainly in the £1,000,000 plus bracket. A house just up the road from us took over a year to sell at two thirds the original price. I think if you are savvy you could put your money into the right cars. Earn a few quid tax free. Sell at the right time. Still own a very nice house and get to keep some of your toys. But none of us have a crystal ball

Quite like how you refer to what looks to be a 911 Turbo as 'your old banger' in your OP. Also the house where that Lambo is parked looks very red brick and leafy. I suspect this area isn't working class at all and never has been. Looks like Hampstead/Highgate or one of the nicer stops along the central line to me.

The house with the Ferrari outside would be about 800K in Croydon these days, and I suspect you're in a nicer part within greater London, so that house would be worth a million plus.

I guess you are right about that and either scenarios could be right, however, I’d say it’s more likely that someone with a big house can afford a super car than someone with an average house. Well, I pay 450 a month to pay the loan off on my car from Lloyd’s and Bmw would have charged me around the same if it was a pcp albeit with a hefty final payment so paying off a Ferrari 488 must be over 2 grand a month, you’d need to be earning well over 10,000 a month after tax to afford those kind of payments! That is A LOT of money to pay on 2 cars, doesn’t make sense

With regard to house prices, wow I'm glad I live up north. That semi would be 150 grand or so in a nice area.

Inspector Clueso you're slightly wide of the mark wink

Both houses are in a postcode nr to Wembley worth approx £400,000 give or take £50,000. A 2006 911 turbo is a banger compared to a Pagani, Fezza and Lambo in my book but glad you think it isn't. I love it to be fair.

I remember when living there hearing about a gang who tied you up in your own house, robbed, raped and murdered victims so having those cars in that sort of area definitely carries an element of risk too thinking about but it was the relative values which amused me. Just wouldn't have believed that Lambos, Paganis and Fezzes could all be see within a few hundred yards of each other in suburban NW London.

Croydon was a rough area from what I remember 20-30 yrs ago so amazing a 3 bed semi worth 800k - wonders of regeneration - happy days smile

I think that that mistake here is that people are assuming it's a middle class area. 4 bed semi in a decent suburb of London will run you 1M+ no sweat, and if you own/can afford that you're no longer middle class in the traditional sense. All of a sudden a supercar doesnt seem so incongruous. Not really much different from someone in an average priced house having a lightly used M4 on the driveway.

There's a decent chance there are actually quite a few people there who are really rather wealthy, it's just crazy modern house prices mean it doesn't look it.

I could buy a house 3 x the price I guess but don't see the point.

Behave! 2006 , makes is a 997? Must be 45-50 grand if bought off a forecourt now? That cant be described as a 'banger' compared to anything else.
All relative I suppose but compared to a 488 (£275k) , H Spyder (£230k) and Pagani??? I'm not sure as I've never enquired but think the Pagani is over £1 million to buy new maybe even more used in these crazy times whistle

So driving around my old working/middle class neighbourhood and bumped into a friend who has bought a Pagani Huyara! Conversation went along the lines of nice to see you what are you doing around here? He pointed to his parents 3 bed semi and said thats where I live! Tickled me that his car is worth two to three times what their house is worth and gave him a fair bit of stick for it and also for living with his parents in his 30s.

Drove up the road a bit same thing. Lambo H Spyder parked outside another 3 bed semi. Further down the road another 3 bed semi with a 488 GTB and SQ7. WTF!

Made me chuckle that their cars are so important to them and there's me driving around in my old banger smile
Are they Asian by any chance?
