Chaps, could someone please confirm the 997.1 Turbo engine is direct fuel injection and therefore bore scoring is not a worry - I'm looking at a couple of 2006-7 cars
the 997.1 turbo has the fabled mezger engine. Its one of the best engines out there at the mo and the reason why they're so expensive - bulletproof other than the odd coolant line popping off. No bore scoring etc.

Have to disagree about the gearshift in 997.2. Just fit the Porsche SSK and it's a delight and heel and toe a doddle.

I've had my 997.2 C2 manual for 2.5 years and it has Sports PASM, PCCB, Chrono, sports seats, PSE as well some more superficial stuff (was specced by Porsche as a release car). It's my only car and other than needing more space now and again, it's damned perfect! I've considered a second car to keep the mileage down (now on 77k), but sod it - better to just enjoy!!

For your budget you should be able to find a nice low mileage 997.2 and you will likely not really lose much in depreciation.

Good luck!
Jon

I'm surprised after 3 pages my Cayman wasn't linked to. It's sold now but that was an S with basically every option on it. Now struggling to look for a replacement I now really know at 36k it was a bargain. There's nothing in this price range to touch it.

The 997.2 is a peach of a car but the call of a GT car is growing stronger. Undecided at the moment but I might swing by a couple of other cars on the way so I fancy a 981 GTS and 991 S from the P car stable and probably an Evora 400 which is well worth a look when you start talking over 50k. R8 V10 is on the list too. There is a reasonable amount of choice at this price point.

I think in terms of bang and glam for your buck an R8 V10 is a good shout as mentioned. Manuals easily available as well. If my 997 GTS stops getting use due to our new baby and not being able to get 4 of us in, it's a swap I might make.

If be interested to try it as I found the V8 a bit dull to drive next to the Cayman . Nice noise though .

There is one criticism I have of the 997.2 interior, the centre console which houses the arm rest and handbrake. It's painted With a rubber coating which looks tatty easily. Very few cars come with leather here but will be adding to mine.
I have a spare centre tunnel/console in leather and another which has a carbon finish applied by Wicked Coatings. Drop me a line if you’re interested in pics (and I may be interested in selling one of the 2, in case that appeals).

Out of interest, I have a 2009/59 997.2 C2S with just under 20k miles. It’s a PDK car (silver with black leather) with a full Porsche service history and recent new rear tyres (<300 mls ago). The car has a decent spec, including sport chrono plus, PCM, Bose, Cruise, etc.

What sort of money is this worth ? Am debating swapping for something else - just wondering what this is worth. Couple of alloys need to refurbed but otherwise in v good condition.

Reading this thread has focused me to think seriously about buying a 997.2 again. My first 911 was a 997.2 C2 in 2010 and since then i have had Cayman R, 991 C2, 991 Turbo and Boxster 718. All these have been great but due to house move and short attention span regarding cars have been sold. Only purchase (or lack of purchase) I have regretted is a few years ago putting a deposit down on an immaculate 964 C2 been sold for £14,000 (when nobody wanted them) and then deciding against buying it due to slight oil leak.

So I decided that now was the time to find a 997.2 again and after trawling the interweb decided to look at the 2009 - 997.2 C2 Manual been sold by Bolton OPC which had PASM in Aqua Blue. As the car was in prep and wasn't available to view till yesterday I arranged on Tuesday to test drive a 997.2 C4S PDK they had - just to get a feel for the 997.2 again. I was impressed with the way it drove and the way the cabin wraps around you compared to a 991. So yesterday I finally drove the 997.2 C2 with manual gearbox and even though it has done 61,000 miles with the last owner using it as his daily and putting 30,000 miles on it in 18 months it was an impressive drive - especially as it was coming with 2 year OPC warranty with new front dampers, new tyres, etc. All it needs is a short shift gearstick.

So after the drive and back at the showroom I did a deal to buy the 997.2. Only it was the C4S I had driven on Tuesday. In the end the C4S rear and the condition and lower mileage of the car was the decider. So picking up next week after a change of Steering Wheel to Paddleshift rather than buttons and hopefully this one will be a keeper. Also great service as usual from Bolton OPC.

Yes black leather.

The seats were the basic tombstones but I installed some OEM carbon (folding) buckets which are amazing.

Leather? Everyone loves leather in a Porker. Sports seats? With under 20k miles, it's going to be easy to sell.

It sounds amazing other than PDK and am glad it's PDK as I just bought a manual at 21k miles and paid quite a premium.
PDK stands shoulder to shoulder with manual in this market.

Hi Guys,
Enjoying the searching - I've driven a few now. Def 997 for me, both 997 and 991 are amazing but i prefer the feel in the 997.

Can i ask how i can be sure when an early 2009 is a Gen 2- do i contact Porsche with the number plate? Specifically, am I right that PDK would mean .2?

Thanks

PDK is definitely a .2

The real giveaways are that the 997.2 has LED DRLs at the front and LED rear tail lights with a more angular shape

As above, all PDKs are Gen 2. The centre console and screen is also quite different to a Gen 1.

My Gen 2 is on a 58 plate and I'm sure I've seen some on 08 plates so early 09 should be Gen 2 just going off the numberplate.
