Tyre choice suggestions please (GT3)
Discussion
Would appreciate the more expert on here giving me their views.
My gen 2 997 GT3 is approaching 7500 miles from new on the original Corsa system.
I am personally very happy with them but as a N0 rated tyre they are no longer available.
Car is used purely as a sunday / fun toy on the roads ( sorry chaps ) - no track work.
As such if I need to replace all 4 , suggestions ?

Don't consider myself an expert in anything car related but I do have 10 years experience of driving these cars doing 10-15 trackdays and 7k miles per year including many hoons around Europe.
As you stated the the car is road only I wouldn't go cup2's, as good as they are they still can't compete with a road tyre in wet conditions and to be honest I doubt that the extra grip a cup 2 can give on the road over say a PS4 is really noticeable to most. I couldn't tell when I put a set of PS4 on last summer to do a 10 day trip around Europe but when it rained as it does the PS4 was a lot more secure on the tarmac than a cup 2, that was noticeable.
So my advice would be road tyres for a road car and the PS4 is one of the best I used lately.

Cheers guys.It seems that if I need to keep within the Porsche Warranty I have to go PS2 rather than the 4 which sounds a better option.
I struggle with why apparently some OPC's appear relaxed with fitting different exhausts and yet no problem with the warranty ( unless directly an issue caused by it ) and yet tyres have to be N rated.

At only 7500 miles I suspect you enjoy getting the car out on occasion when the weather is favourable, as opposed having to drive it in all weathers, especially when it's pi55ing it down.
A couple of years ago I swapped from Michelin Cup 1s to PS2s, since my 997.2 is used predominantly on the road. The PS2's never felt short of grip on track and I also felt I had the added security of a road tyre in all weathers. They even came with some useable tread depth!
Time to replace the PS2's and I have now reverted to Cup 2s. Unlike the original Cup tyre they have more tread from new and are (allegedly) even better at coping with standing water. If the roads are full of standing water just take it easy. Whether you have PS2's or Cup tyres fitted, 911's and standing water will never be a good combination.
At the end of the day there's only a small premium to pay for knowing you've got the very best track optimised rubber on such a focused road car as the GT3. I enjoy that feeling just as much as the ultimate grip and steering feedback I can experience when the conditions and situations allow :-)
Food for thought and enjoy that great car regardless.

Thats a very fair point - its earliest use in the year is March usually but yes I dont think its seen much rain ! - I vaguely recall that Cups were an option when I originally ordered the car ( although it appeared random what it arrived with ) and they had less tread than the Corsas - that said I might be talking b*llocks.
With " normal " road use would Cups last 4k ?

I have a 997 gen2 as well, and the cup2 is such a good tyre now (with a lot more tread depth than the original Cup) that I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to recommend them - just been out in the drizzly cold st we call weather this time of year, and they worked well. If you need N spec, then this is the optimal choice imho as the PS2 is quite an old tyre now. Not saying it's crap, just there's a lot better available (ie PS4S albeit non N). If you want to bias you're activity towards poor weather then definitely consider the PS4S as it has almost as much dry grip as the Cup2 but obviously a more rounded wet/cold performance.

I had Cup'1 on my 997RS and Cup'2 on my 991GT3 / GT4 and the Cup'2 is a massive step on in the wet its a great all-round tyre and you will need to be very hard on tyres to only get 4k from them, my GT4 has 7k and has done 4 track days plus euro tours and still has plenty of tread left. With " normal " road use would Cups last 4k ?
