Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered in the forum before but a quick scan I couldn't see. Is the coming 718 GT4 going to be silly limited buggering about numbers again in the Uk?

thanks!

Most likely it won't be a limited numbers (eg 500), but like all GT cars the number they make will be limited by production constraints. Bear in mind though that they ended up selling (I think) 595 of the last gen in the UK, so numbers were not that limited.

I've read elsewhere about Porsche builds being suspended during the summer. If this is true - and given that the new GT4 hasn't been officially announced yet - do we think its fair to assume hat no cars will hit the market until late 2018 at the earliest?

Ok thanks. So I take it will be produced in the GT dept/factory rather than the normal production facility and hence the production capacity issue.

Nope, same as last time and as for the current GT3 - everything is produced on the same line and all Caymans are produced at Osnabruck.

Sorry I don;t know anything about their facilities - are you saying there is actually no production capacity issue or that regular Caymans suffer a supply issue as well as the GT4?

I just called Cambridge Porsche Center, and was basically told there was no chance.

Lotus it is then.

Thanks all.

GT4s were/will be built alongside the base/S/GTS Caymans, so the limit will be producing all Cayman derivatives for all markets over a certain period time. There are only so many build slots available for everything.

You could try another OPC to see what they say, but they're not going to commit to much without the car being announced yet. Once it's declared then serious discussions can start.

I would have thought the new GT4 will be announced later this year (about a year after the GTS was) & reckon more like early 2019 before we see new owners collecting their cars.

Thats a shame. Don't let one dealership put you off. They all differ so much in customer service & allocation criteria. If you have had no previous history of buying new Porsche's then chances are probably slim. Or you could leave it until its gets closer to the new GT4 being announced etc & pick up the current GT4 - prices may soften a little.

That about sums it up have been told this by OPC and at least they ended the speculation and confirmed what we most of us knew it is definitely coming!!

Unfortunately it's toys for the "in crowd" as usual. I was told by my OPC it was special customers only. Yes I could go round other OPCs on bended knee - but do I really want to? Is that the sort of outfit/company you/I really want to do business with?

Didn't you have (or maybe still have) a 981 Spyder from new?

No - that's probably why I'm not one of the in crowd.

reading this question has made me wonder - early 2019 would be good timing for me and I have a good (if not 'comprehensive') relationship with my OPC - bought from them and sold back to them so they have had a chunk of money from my car in various forms (also used for servicing), so perhaps I may stand a chance of being on the chosen list...a small chance, but a chance none-the-less.

If you keen to get a car, then I would fine a dealer who will take an order (and some won't until the car is actually announced), put a deposit down and be patient. None of the OPCs will know how many 718s they will get yet. You definitely won't get a car unless you have an order in, to state the obvious.

To increase your chances, you could find a dealer who has a 981 GT4, and buy it on the "understanding" that you would like to order a 718 when announced and would trade-in the 981. That will obviously cost you a chunk of change but would certainly increase your chances of getting a 718 slot.

Sorry for the thread revival
Who would have thought that the 718 GT4 would not be sold for overs and getting one would be quite easy. Strange time we live in, but glad that more genuine owners can buy these to drive rather than as investments
