Weight distribution makes a HUGE difference to the handling of a car. Yesterday I transported 60 small 50cl bottles of Volvic in my GT4. I deliberately put all 60 bottles the rear trunk of my car, rather than half up front and half in the back. The car was not overloaded, but the weight distribution was all screwed up. Car felt bad: vague steering, understeer, slow response. Transformed the car from a scalpel that I love driving into a sack of spuds. Thankfully sans Volvic the car feels ace again.
I am surprised that 30kilos made such a significant impact to your car.

Seems like the rarity of the Targa will be undone. Meanwhile I would not want all that extra weight high up on my car. I would rather buy a used 991.1 convertible and be happy.

I know that the comparison to the Targa is not quite the same, but the point being that the changes in vehicle dynamics - besides how fast it goes in a straight line - are very tangible.
30kg of water in the boot made you feel increased understeer and messed weight distribution whilst driving on public roads? Hmmmmmmm.

I had about 40kg of tiles in the front of my F355 once, buggered the steering and car dynamics as well, so I'm pretty 30kg extra at the opposite extremity and a foot or so higher would be noticeable

what about when you've used ~30litres of petrol ? do you notice weight distribution and vague steering then?

Having ordered my new 991.2 GTS convertible early last November, my Porsche Centre are now saying I may not get my car.

I'm so disappointed, they tell me Porsche are ceasing the 991.2 build in June and gearing up for the new model. But why did they take my deposit and lead me along ? They have offered me a Targa due to a customer cancellation but i didn't particularly want a Targa. Should I take it ? or am I being lead along the garden path ?
fkers how dare they

I can't say whether or not I'd notice 30kg of weight in the wrong place but maybe some drivers would.

I don't know if it's tru but I suspect the reason the Targa is only 4wd is for weight distribution....the extra weight of the 4wd mechanism at the fron presumably balances out the weight of the targe roof and mechanism which is all high up and towards the rear of the car which is exactly where you wouldn't want it in a 911.

Isn’t the targa about 130kg heavier than the coupe?

Surely that must be very noticeable and blunt the experience.

I would contact all the other OPC in a large radius and see what they come up.
I’ve driven a 991 targa and found it very underwhelming- Big and heavy.

Where are you getting the info on 911 production hold from? I can’t find it anywhere on the net.

I was told the same by a dealer about production stopping soon and no orders. This will make the Carrera T a very limited car - wonder if they launched it at this precise time to make it a 'collectors' car without technically making it a limited edition car?

Did they improve the Targa design for Gen 2? I love the look of them, but drove a 991.1 Targa and it was awful - couldn't hold a conversation at all. Went for a convertible.

Anyway, is this not dodging a bullet? Your car is about to be replaced by a better one.

not just 911 apparently, Porsche will not be producing any cars from May-September.

So will probably be their worst September ever. I think theres a massive drive on producing cars before this happens to trickle through over the period.

So if anyone has a fairly new car they are wanting to sell, I'd say this summer is the time to do it as there will be a premium, due to lack of new cars being offered.

Different dealers appear to have different availability.
Kendal are just about to put a GTS Cab as their showroom car, and have a GTS Cab ordered a couple of weeks ago arriving early March, so there are cars out there to be bought, just seems some dealers have 'oversold' their allocation.

For some 911 owners, isn't that the same as taking the wife out in the car, just without the nagging?

Update: I went to the dealer and they tell me they are hardly getting any 911's through right now, my GTS order might materialize in September but it's not certain. I called another dealer who says theres little chance of them getting a new GTS now. I took a good look at a base used Targa and it is really very nice, looks good, special even, we went for a drive with the roof stowed and its fine, very little wind buffeting and it was - well a 911 & therefore superb. Upon checking the used values of targa GTS cars I find dealers are actually asking around 10k to 13k above list price right now for 17 & 67 plate cars. So I switched my order an I'm expecting a shiny new GTS targa early April, all happy again smile
Congratulations , the targa looks superb to me. GT3 that's absolutely lovely.
