Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition
Discussion
I have been offered a new one of these by my dealer, and they seem good value. My idea is to use it as a daily driver so I do not use my GTS for dull motorway work.
Is the platinum edition worthwhile or is it best to hang on for a new model. I think they are a close out model?
Also S or non S for the boring stuff.
Any views or help would be appreciated.

It's a run out model for the current 958.2 Cayenne, hence great value as it includes a lot of the commonly spec'd options. I have been running a 958.1 Diesel Platinum (the pre-facelift V6) for the past 4 years and it has been perfect for family duties and motorway slogs. What's amazing though is how well it you can fling it around for a two tonne SUV. The V6 highlights how much fun the V8 would be with 100+ bhp more, although with a more fun Porsche in the garage you can just waft around enjoying the lovely interior quality and almost 40mpg. The V6 isn't exactly slow, think more hot-hatch brisk, but the torque of the V8 is hilarious and it even makes a nice noise.
The new Cayenne looks almost identical externally, but has a little more boot space, and has a significantly updated dashboard similar to the latest Panamera (the current car is much like a 991 interior) along with various bits of new optional tech like LED matrix lights, rear wheel steering, etc. It also has a brand new set of petrol engines, but as yet no diesel or hybrid options, so if you want economy for big mileages the current car could be a good deal. Personally I've got a new petrol "S" coming in April (with the 2.9 twin turbo V6 out of the Audi RS4/5), but I know I'll be visiting petrol stations on a regular basis! I'll also be paying over 80 grand for the privilege, so considerably more than a well spec'd Platinum of either flavour.
Fortunately there are no bad options :-)

Thanks Pete, that makes a lot of sense. I think that was my thought, do I wait for the new one but for a daily driver 60K for a platinum makes a lot of sense. It really would be for dull miles and sometimes towing.
As you say for fun, I have it covered with a manual 2wd GTS, so I don't really need to cover both bases, as you say a big tank and a nice MPG could be the answer.
I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

We got ours a couple of weeks ago. Very pleased so far, I was worried about not getting the S but with a great spec and two other fast cars in the garage I'm really enjoying it.
Keep pushing them on deals, I said to my dealer this is what I want to pay, if you can get there I'll buy one. I've got stuff to do so I'm off now. Two hours later we had a deal.

Bought a Cayenne S Diesel last May. It's my third but this one is the Platinum Edition. It's very good value and if you want to upgrade seats, stereo to Burmeister etc it's discounted as it already comes with Bose etc. I would go for the S if you can. 850Nm of torque is just hilarious. It's a seriously fast car if you want it to be yet gives 35mpg which is better than my wife's Tiguan!
Does seem good value. On the WS finance example £9,900 deposit & £408 X 36 months. Thats only a £100 more a month & same deposit for my wifeys Disco which was three years old when we bought it. I have put in a general enquiry at my OPC.
Has anyone got money off the £55K list price? Would be interested to know how far I could go.
Wondering when the order book will close on this run out special edition?

That illustration has just helped me enormously! Thank you so much.I picked up a new Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition just before Christmas. Got a pretty good deal/discount on list from OPC Sheffield for a "pre-configured" car that was very close to my ideal spec, so I took it.
In short it's a lovely car... so far have done 1500 (mostly motorway) miles in it, and I am liking it a lot. It's very smooth and easy to drive, quite powerful for a V6 and can be thrown around, but then returns over 40mpg on a good run, which is a bit nuts for such a big car.
The platinum edition extras are worth it... the seats are fantastic and it comes with a lot of kit.
Would I have it as an only car? Probably not, but we are lucky enough to have a few fun cars to choose from at the weekend. However, as a long distance cruiser, a family bus and a utility vehicle it absolutely rocks. I'd totally recommend one.

In the end, standard Diesel V6 with a few bits on, it is only for dull stuff and once the extras went on the pcp shot up. The standard spec is pretty good and I got the extras that I wanted. The dealer had an amazing purpurite car but with all the bits it was £200 per month more and it was just not worth it.
Really looking forward to it, that with a manual GTS should be a great combination.

You wont regret it. Pretty impressive wagons for a 2.5 tonne SUVReally looking forward to it, that with a manual GTS should be a great combination.
Am looking at upgrading the wifes S5 Cab at some point for a 911 C4S or GTS cab.
What colour did you go for? I went Rhodium Silver
