Through bad geometry settings and i'm sure using too much steering when it's not needed, i've prematurely scrubbed the outside corners off a new front set of Pirelli P-Zero Corsas. I've got the geometry set correctly now but before i take it back to the track i wondered if i could salvage some of the wear otherwise the tyres are going to be useless if i continue to use them as they are.

Could i simply swap the left and right tyres to the opposite side of the car, still keeping them in the same plane and the rotation of each tyre will stay the same. That's NOT turning the tyre on the same rim but swapping sides of the car.

The tyres are asymmetric and rotational, but as i'd only use them for dry track days i wondered if this would be OK? Obviously they're no longer being used as designed and as the tread pattern is different the grip levels would change but would it be dangerous?

here's a pic the scrubbed tyre.

I can't see that it would make much difference.

No problem swapping them at all. I should have done the same thing on my tt's rear tyres as they wear quicker on the inside edges. Would have given me an extra thousand miles or so, which is a lot considering the last set wore out around the 5k mark.

Remember the Corsa is a directional tyre, and if you swap thema round the tread will be backwards, this would cause huge issues in the rain. If the worst was to happen I doubt the insurance company would be happy.

I'm with Sean on this one. I'm sure that neither the tyre manufacturer nor Porsche would recommend you do this ....so its a bummer but you dont want the rubber to let you down in the extreme conditions that you intend to drive them to ....ie on track....you know how fast the UK weather can change things when it comes to 'dampness'

This would not be the case since you would simply be moving the tire to the other side of the car without turning it at all. The tread would be in the same direction and so would the rotation.

What Del is worried about is that the construction of the tyre may be different on the outside from the inside - more rigid side walls, different tread pattern, those sort of things. When he swaps them, what is normally the inside side wall will then be on the outside and may react differently.

Hope that clarifies things

Yes but when you buy tyres you don't buy a left hand one and a right hand one. The tread pattern will be the same across the width of the tyre. Just means that you'll have the outside worn more than the inside instead of the other way round if you swap thzem over. Of course there are limits to the amount of wear but as long as they are within legal limits it shouldn't be a problem.

Bearing in mind that I'm an ignoramus on this subject, here goes ...

Surely thats precisely not the case here. The tyre tread pattern is not the same across the width (hence asymmetric I guess ). And if you look at the pic you can see that the tread pattern is different left to right.

Guess I'd like to see a pic of the other front tyre as well. Though I'd still know nothing about it.

Yes, as i posted, i'm aware of the rotational properties of the tyre and that i would only be using them on dry track days.

In fact you do buy a different tyre for each corner of my car. And they are marked up as LEFT and RIGHT plus they have a rotational arrow for the "V" pattern of the rain grooves. Also the tread pattern is different across the width of the tyre which is what makes them asymmetrical.

I still think on a dry track day you would see little difference.

Just bought 2 Nokian WR A4 21545R17 91 V XL for the front of my Subaru. The treads seems to be going against each other assured by Oponeo this was the latest technology.

Anyone know different........?

Surely they should be mirror images as when shifting rain you want it going to the side of the car not underneath.

Those two tyres look identical to me, just one is facing the other way to the other. Methinks you've been told a porkie.

Yes but they are cheaper & more sizes available. It's like buying a barbecue in October.

Same as uniroyal rain sport 3. A lot of mx5 owners bang on about these (probably cos they're cheap or they enjoy going sideways) but instinctively - even if it makes no real world difference - this to me is wrong.
