My basic 'manuel' car with T pack as the only option (pcm too) arrives in a couple of weeks. As you know I have a GT4 too so no bias here.

When your GT3 arrives you will be able to appreciate the benefits of 4ws(which you previously derided btw)...an option available on the T for those who may want it.....unavailable on the S. Ditto ceramics. Ditto buckets and various other options.

As for residuals, it's all about the production numbers.
I am not sure a drivers car needs RWS, I have been in a RWS car but too long ago to remember it, do we need it in a drivers car ? and you can spec it on the S if you wish. I do deride it, but in the GT3 you have to have it and it's just another aid to help one drive it faster.

I have decided to keep my R and mod it a bit, it has plenty of power, the best steering on any Porsche in the last 10 years imo and it's mid engine and 2 seats, for me it's the perfect driving tool. any thing newer is less driver focused, I was hoping for more out of the GT4 and the gearing ruined it, the Spyder is the same, the gearing saps the car of any life, the brakes are over servoed and the steering is average. The R and the org Spyder win hands down as drivers cars over the GT4 and 981 Spyder. The GT4 comes into it's own as a track GT entry level Porsche and for that it's great but then one needs to mod it to track it and people don't like to touch them. My 981 Spyders up for sale this week, it's good to tick a box to own it, but it's not good enough to keep, or change any of my other cars for it at the price it is. I did like it, I would want to mod it, a 435 HOT rod Spyder would be cool, and over come the gearing a bit, it also would work well on 19" wheels to drop the ratio a bit also. Be a nice project. the biggest thing I dislike about the 981 was the exhaust, which is what people like the most, it's farty thing, the cars too quite PSE off and it just farts PSE on, the GT4 had the sounds nailed imo.

Also as you like rare there are only 100 R's in manual and 100 987.2 Spyder in manual in the UK so a rare thing, owners have a secret handshake you know ;-)

Again we come back to the 997 GTS which really is the last of the true interactive cars in the 911 range and hence the price as they are sort after.
Been looking for one my self but I am fussy on spec, it has to be an Alcantara, manual car in white and none ever come up.

My GT3 will be a lifestyle car, I guess it's way too fast for the road, time will tell, I'll give a honest review of it next month.

the T is a base 911 with -20kg on a 1500kg car, or 5kg if you spec the seats and nav. the perception of it being special or more than it's sum of parts is an illusion, the reality is that a well specced base 911 is a decent car in itself, things like the door handles, badging etc all contribute to this illusion imo

the gt4 is a much more special car and with a high spec 't' being ~£110k, the gt4 will hold its value better too

I've sold a GT4 to buy a T. Ultimately for the rear seats and usability - the front height or overhang of the 4 can be problematic as a daily.
I'm under no illusions that the GT car in extreme is the better driving car, for road driving most of the time I can't see there being alot in it.
If image matters, I much prefer that of the T, I like the pure classic narrow bodied clean look of the T, the boy racer GT4 look didn't sit that well with me.
Agreed a GT4 touring would be the job- again only two seats though!
911's are always over priced compared to a Cayman, we pay for the name. On either model the GT car at list is always a relative bargain.

IMHO GT4 no question. It is proper motorsport product. Just puhsed a Clubsport again for two days in sunny Ascari (have driven it in VLN races at the Ring too) and it is just an amazing piece of kit.

I know, the race version is very different from the roadgoing car but if the race car is anything to go by, I would not spend a second thought about a T if I had the option (and I quite like the idea of the T).

The Clubsport It's a proper race car with the full fat GT3 front-end (and lovely unservoed brakes), The enginge works well on track too - did around 550 km the first day alone and even on a rather tight and technical circuit like Ascari it never missed a beat.

A Cayman might not be to everybody's taste and some people may just prefer a 911 full stop. As a sports car the GT4 is just spectacular though

Keep talking up Manual 997 GTS prices please! When the T was launched I did compare it to my 997 GTS...1425kg (not 100% sure that's accurate but that's the number I found) and 408 BHP vs 365 BHP and 1425 kg for the T.

So it is a decent comparison but I think the manual 997 GTS is sort after for a reason. Mine's Silver with the manual box (factory fitted SSK) and the alcantara and full leather. And no I am not selling but I think at £70k to £75k for a manual it's pretty fully priced.

Main attraction for me on the t is the rear seats. But a t only makes sense at 90k. At 100k , get a 2wd gts.

Never ceases to amaze me what people pay for these. Great car though especially with the hydraulic steering and 2wd but way overpriced imo.

Mines PDK with full leather...no Alcantara in sight.

£95k new, £63k in 2012 and £75k in 2018.

You need to try and drive both as there are T’s in dealers.... They are a different car but both have lots of positives .... And depends what you want.....

As a T owner I can tell you that the lack of sound deadening, and all the changes makes a massive difference and the whole package is more than the sum of its parts.... I love it and it’s a 911....whatever you think of the 911 it is Porsche and Porsche is 911.

Good review in Total 911 today as well...

GT4!!

my view on the T: lose 3/4 of a stone in weight & buy a bogo 991.2 Carrera, save £8k!!

you cannot buy a base 911 atm, the 911T was an end of run to sell the base engine they have left, but then the S is still the better car imo as you get the extra BHP, but really you still go for the GTS.

In fact, why stop at the GTS?

Try the turbo, but then, many say the turbo S is better still.

Then there is the GT3 with or without wing but others will have to hold out for the GT3RS. In fact, that's a bit soft too these days, what you really want is a GT2RS.

I've heard that they are a bit overrated though, the smart money goes on a Cup car now.

Then again, after I win the Carrera Cup, I am going into Formula 1 and the Mercedes-Benz F1 W07 seems to be the weapon of choice there...

Sorry David, couldn't resist.

Not sure they're over priced with the manual gearbox because it sits so well as an overall package with the hydraulic steering, 2wd and naturally aspirated engine.

lol I said GTS due to the 2WD option over the 4WD turbo :-) every thing else is PDK so not for the same buyer.
