I'm new to forums of any kind and this is my first ever post. I have been watching this thread since ordering my 718S last year and after a very enjoyable journey yesterday I felt compelled to comment.
It was probably the most enjoyable business trip I have ever carried out by car, Leaving home nice an early on the first beautiful day of the year I headed up from Durham on the A68 to Falkirk for a couple of stops, then onto Glasgow and home via M74, A69 and A68.
I bought my 718 as a sports car but was amazed by its all-round capabilities. It was comfortable, 20 inch wheels no PASM, and after 7 1/2 hours driving time I got out feeling fresh and would have very happily kept on going, The handling and grip on the twisties was amazing and the power for overtaking always present with no signs of any lag, This is a very powerful car. I did use the 'mad' button on the sports chrono a couple of times when overtaking, that is great fun and highly recommended.
It was a 378 mile round trip and I averaged 29mpg, arriving home with 26 miles of range left in the tank. Couldn't believe I did the whole journey without refuelling although I did have to ease off a little on the final stretch as it's amazing what a bit of spirited acceleration will do to the projected range figure.
My only niggle being the fact that the apple car play proved to be useless. I rang the dealer on route to complain of it not working to be told that the PCM needs an update and they can't keep up those constantly coming from Apple for the iPhones.
I don't mean this to sound like an advert for the 718 but I have owned many cars over the years and this was such an enjoyable trip. I got out of the car, sat and had a beer watching it ticking away cooling down and felt that I needed to share the experience. As we all know the wife will only listen for so long before you get told that you're boring her!

Good to hear...
Mrs Wife and I off to the PEC on Monday to drive the 718 BGTS and I'm really interested to see how it compares to our 981 BGTS.
If we want a new BGTS/CGTS there is no alternative so it's pleasing to hear good things about the 718 as they certainly look great..

OP, great choice of car What's your CarPlay problem? I've a 67 plate car and all the latest iOS updates, only issue I have is not being able to skip tracks with the favourite button on the wheel, which works fine in every other music source, including using the phone via Bluetooth or plugged in as an iPod.

Congratulations!
For the type of driving you did, are you happy with 29mpg? What had you been used to before with your previous car?
I marvel at my 2.7 981's ability to out-mpg the 2012 TTS I had before. On a run it's 10mpg more than the TTS could ever manage, around 42mpg for the Cayman.

You must be driving too slowly DJMC ! The best I can manage is 25 mpg (no motorway, though all "fun" B roads as car is just my "fine day toy").
Has been said before. I left a lot of rubber on the tarmac in my racing days so I do take it easy a lot of the time. However, over 27k miles of all sorts of driving it's averaging 35-36mpg. I'd be cringing if I drove it so hard I only achieved 25mpg. I prefer finesse to forceful foot flat to the floor. Pinball said:

It's mainly SIRI that isn't working. When I try to use it to make calls or read texts through car play, with the phone connected, it just keeps searching and says it is unable to connect and to try later. Edited by Pinball on Friday 20th April 13:32

That's weird. I don't have an issue other than the track advance not working.WG said:
Couldn't agree more. Was in my BGTS yesterday for a 3 hour drive around Sussex. Great time, lovely weather, little traffic and a chance to start "extending" the engine revs now that car is almost run in. Love the sound of the sport exhaust !! (Hard hat on waiting for the flak !!)
Out in my 718 CGTS on Sunday , the exhaust sounds great when in sports mode and giving it beans! Might account for the 21mpg !!! Best so far is 33.8mpg on 130 mile trip across the North Yorkshire Moors to Scarborough not bad as still running in. Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
