My dads 964 needs new coilovers, i have some knowledge having worked on cars a bit but i am no means an expert at all!

Does anyone have any recommendations?
He is getting older now so doesn't want it to be rock hard and slammed.
He wants it to be lower than it currently (4 fingers arch gap) is although he is planning on fitting 17/18" wheels.
Budget of around 1.5-2k

Does anything else need changing when i do this? Top mounts?

Thanks in advance!

I was recently in the same situation for my 964 C2.

The original Boge dampers are no longer available, so this was a non-starter, and even if they were damper tech has come a long way in 30 years.

My 64 is only used on the road so I was not interested in adjustable rebound and compression, so this ruled out KW V3, Bilstein PSS10, Ohlins R&T, leaving Bilstein B6 (Previously called HD) KW V1, and Koni FSD.

I was initially set on the Bilstien's, based on the various feedback I found, but the more I looked into it the more of a ball ache it became, the dampers don't come with springs, so you will need to get a set, which are not matched, most use H&R. They also don't come with spring perches, so you either use your old ones or buy new ones, they also don't come with top mounts, and they are not true coilovers so have limited height adjustability.

Then I looked at KW V1, which are true coilers, have stainless steel bodies, as oppose to the Bilsteins mild/zinc, come with matched springs, perches and rear top mounts, fronts will need to be purchased separately. (OEM from Porsche)

The only concern I had was the KW spring rates, front spring rates are the same as Bilstein's with H&R Purple, but the rears were stiffer, however I pulled the trigger and do not find them stiff at all, although everyone has a different tolerance, there is a marked improvement over the original kit, although a stiffer spring rate they are far less crashy due to the better damping and have a heap of height adjustability.

All in, very happy and would recommend.

I bought mine from Europerformance whom were circa £700 cheaper than D911.

Exe-tc are literally perfect for your askings. If not exe-tc, well setup ohlins will be very comfortable.

I don't think Exe-TC would fit into his budget unless you know different. I emailed them a while ago but never received a response - may call them instead as I heard they where working on something for a 964.

You would perhaps get a single EXE-TC damper for £1.5k

They are Motorsport/Race dampers and in the same league as JRZ and the like which are a significant step up in cost, and performance.

I've got a set of GAZ Gold waiting to go onto my 996, has anyone here used them ? They should fall nicely inside the OP's budget even allowing for top mounts and other odds 'n' ends.
