I've got a Macan GTS and it will not be leaving our household for a couple of years yet and will either be replaced with another Macan GTS (If Porsche produce one in the facelift version) or maybe a Macan EV if it is here in 3 years time.

I was on a BMW M Tour driving day on Friday as I have ordered a new M2 Competition and drove the X4.0M car which although I enjoyed the drive in made me realise that the Macan is head and shoulders above it in handling, power, drive quality, noise and looks.

As others have said look for a second hand GTS and you will not be disappointed smile

Why??????????? influenced by someone?
Amusingly no. He is quite a stocky guy six foot tall. He wanted to downsize from the X6M and felt that the Evoque's interior was the roomiest of the smaller cars he tried.

If you don't have to have full suv have a look at an Audi A4 Allroad... I off-road mine 4adults in comfort not to big and the 272ps diesel goes like stink.... drives quite well as well.

Not sure why some on here criticize the 2lt car, I'm collecting my Gen 2 base model soon to replace my base Macan.

I use mine on narrow and normal rural roads most of the time and it's just great with plenty of low down speed up to 70mph driving

VW Tiguan for that budget should get the R line and change.

mmmmm the snob in me says no way, but just looked at the practical side of it and makes more sense, although the Octavia estate wins on style.

For me it’s actually not about the outright performance, I just think they seem poor value for the performance on offer when the larger engines are not a great deal more expensive.

What about the new Audi A7? The hatch style boot gives you some of the practicality of an SUV/Estate, but aesthetically it still looks like a sleek car. I contemplated waiting for the new A7 instead of getting the Cayenne. I much prefer the driving dynamics of a car, but have a hang up about estates. I'd instantly feel old if I bought an estate biggrin, just makes me think of Chevy Chase in National Lampoons Vacation.

Only issue for me with the A7 is the driving dynamics of Audi's are generally very clinical and uninspiring. They do the job magnificently, but other then outright speed they just don't engage me when driving.

Another +1 for AMG GLC Coupe.

I've owned it for a bit longer than a year, from brand new. Looked at several options including cayenne and Audi Q5, but Merc has the better comfort + reliability imho. Just recently sold it along my other daily, and went Lexus. I would also recommend looking at new Lexus RX, they are definitely in different category.

My neighbour has a Lexus RX. I love the way it looks. Very Lambo-esque with the geometric design aesthetic. Its not a very engaging drive though :/

I’ve been holding out for the revised Macan, but OPC telling me I’m looking at Late Q1 19 earliest before first delivers of new cars and only 2L available. I’m concerned the 2 L will be underpowered for a Porsche. Considered a new Cayenne but don’t need it be so big and delivery issues the same as Macan.
Can I ask my fellow PistonHeads for a few ideas on alternative? I need 4 seats, All wheel drive, something stylish not to flash, comfy cruiser, performance not necessarily a no1 concern (unless it’s a Porsche), 35-50k budget, would stretch if needed.
Other cars, Cayman & 991.1 (my long termer L200 is going)
I’ve purposely left out my shortlist to see what you guys come up with??
Wife bought a BMW X1 2.0d xDrive new in 2016. £35k.
0-60 in 7 seconds.
42mpg long-term average. Mostly short journeys.
4 seats. Our sons fit in the back at 6' 4" and 6' 5".
Don't be put off by part time 4WD - last winter it was passing with ease all the snow stranded 2WD cars - superb on summer tyres.
Sports seats really comfy and great for cruising.
Previously we've had Lexus RX; Honda CRV; BMW 5 Touring. X1 is the best so far.
We thought about a Macan, but £20k more for little benefit (other than the badge). Wife's brother has Macan S.
Other car is a 981 Cayman.
Downside - don't expect Cayman handling!

laugh

Same here.
Goes back to my childhood and teenage years, when my Dad had to have a boring estate for his work purposes, and all the Dad's of my mates had cool saloon cars, or sports saloons. The estate stigma has stayed with me for the next 40 years rofl

4x4 SUV's are acceptable, as they bring an extra dimension of usefulness to the game of ground clearance and higher driving position/easy of entry in my old age.

Stelvio - check out the vids on the tube. It handles unbelievably well for an SUV - various engine options too.
