hi,

I have a new 718 Cayman and just wondering what your thoughts on this slight flaw in the edge of the roof around the top corner of the windscreen. I only noticed it when I was detailing the car today and drying the gap around the screen.

The car was bought brand new in October. I’d really prefer not to have to get any paintwork done. I’m more concerned about it rusting, but hopefully it won’t, as there is both paint and lacquer on it. I’ll take it down to the OPC next week, but I doubt they’ll want to touch it.

Anyone ever very had anything similar on their cars?

Thanks

Looks like a poorly finished join where seam sealer is applied prior to being painted. Pretty shoddy finish to be honest & certainly not what I would have expected to see on a new Porsche.

Couple of things that would bother me - a) whether someone would notice in future at point of sale, which may lead them to think car had been accident damaged & poorly repaired; & b) whether there would be issues with future deterioration due to the shoddy finish.

I know it’s not the same but the Mrs bought a brand new Fiat 500 a few years ago & when it was about 12 months old paint started to come off on a seam in the boot shut where seam sealer was applied prior to paint. Basically it was finished in a really poor way. It has some work done under warranty which has now failed leaving me to try & sort now - although difference is this time there is surface rust to sort.

I’m sure in your case Porsche will sort - they’re pretty good at this sort of thing to be fair.

That would annoy me and I’m surprised that it didn’t get picked up at the factory.

I would certainly discuss it with the supplying OPC.

I’d be taking that back to the OPC to get redone , if be doing it regardless of whether it was a Porsche or a Fiat

Surprised it has taken you this long to notice it ..stands out like a sore thumb the pic you posted on the PCGB site looks even worse .The first thing on getting a new car is to wash it and dry it and you will spot any imperfections in the paintwork.

It’s actully quite hard to spot. The camera zoom and it’s flash makes it look a lot more obvious than it is and it’s usually in shadow from the top of the windscreen. It was only due to me removing the remains of a dead fly in the top corner of the windscreen that I noticed it. Even then I had to get a torch to shine into it. Still pretty annoyed I didn’t see it at handover though. I went over every panel closely bar that channel between roof and screen, in the showroom.

Doesn’t help that I’ve only been able to do a 250 miles since I got it and it’s been tucked up in he garage for the last two months or I’d have probably noticed it sooner.

I’ll pop down to the OPC and see what they think. Apart from that, the car is awesome.
