Whilst some cars have longer ratios and some shorter, I think we are far far overdoing it on this thread.
All these cars are too fast for the road if you wish to 'rev out' and maintain legal limits - so your choices are either be illegal or go to a circuit.
Other factors about how the car looks, make you feel, noise, etc, etc are equally important - yes drivability inc ratios might be in there somewhere as well. But it is sounding like a broken record.
997.2 GT3 has similar ratios to 997.1 996 etc etc....they are all great cars.
I disagree, the gearing makes or breaks a car for fast road use vs fun, hence why I sold up my GT3 in the past and would not buy another 996, 997 etc unless doing a project with short final drive and some good shocks. All these cars are too fast for the road if you wish to 'rev out' and maintain legal limits - so your choices are either be illegal or go to a circuit.

It is what it is, but it's far from sounding like a broken record, we just have GT3 hype on PH , we always have sadly.
Hang on a minute R,wtf! Gt3 hype sadly! Who hypes them the most, especialy Manuel versions.
My one car does 118 in 6th,great fun,not the best for economy though but leaves most things behind on the hills

That's just a stupid comment though, because every one does more than 60 mph on B roads in these cars we choose to own.
So one then has to think how far do you want to go over the legal limit, in a shorter geared car the speeds can be far lower to enjoy the car. As Taffy has found out. And why I sold my 996 GT3, as older GT3's just make really bad road cars imo !
the issue now is the new laws regarding fines and points vs speeds brought in in 2018, so getting caught now is far harsher, so owning a car you cannot enjoy makes it a lifestyle posers car, nothing more if you don't live on track with them or are prepared to take it to 120 or so.
the 458 only does 88mph at 9k revs in 3rd, so as I stated you can be on it and see red line in 2nd 3rd and 4th.
older GT3, GT4 and all 981 do 85 mph in 2nd lol !! only the 997.2 RS has the shorter final drive but still does 104mph in 3rd vs the Ferrari 88mph !
It's a big difference driving a Ferrari over GT Porkers or even a bogo 981 manual.
You rev your 458 to 9000 rpm in 3rd !!! I’m surprised you haven’t blown it up, the limiter on these cars is 8200 at best.....So one then has to think how far do you want to go over the legal limit, in a shorter geared car the speeds can be far lower to enjoy the car. Sorry to sound a bit of a simpleton but the test (to me) of any car is how it makes you feel.
I’ve driven many Supercars and moved up from a 991.1 GT3 to my current 991.2 GT3RS.
Drive either one then tell us ‘how it/they make you feel’?
Thanks.
I agree, I have driven the 991.2 gt3 RS and I’ve bought it because it ticked the boxes for me.I’ve driven many Supercars and moved up from a 991.1 GT3 to my current 991.2 GT3RS.

Yes, it’s harsh on the road but so is my performante and AMG 63 s but that’s what I like.
I have a very comfortable car to drive if I need to.

I meant I’ve never taken mine above 8200 as don’t like to rev to the limiter.
Mechanical sympathy and all that...
I much prefer NASP engines over Turbos otherwise i'd have bought a 488 rather than a 458..If you like firm riding cars you'll absolutely love the RS over the 488 IMO.Mechanical sympathy and all that...
An added bonus is an RS from the 129 cars in the first batch will be better than any from the second batch due to the muffling effect of the restrictive GPF.
Give us some feedback on how it compares to your Performante Spyder when you get a chance,,

The 458 revs up to 9k or even 9.2K according to some sources..Where did you get 8200 from or are you referring to the 488.?

Please promise me you will rev your new RS to 9k please ! 8 to 9k in the new GT3 is one of those great driving experiences which make you lol.

Thinking of dipping my toes into Porsche ownership and looked at a 2018 997.2 gt3 RS in lizard green ! Has green roll cage and partial green on interior seats etc and is clubsport spec I’m just not sure on the colour.
What are your thoughts please ?
If you are not keeping up with the joneses get a 991.1 rs, better street car, much better value for money, depreciation won't be as bad as with thr 991.2 rs. Just go with one. If sound is lacking, install a muffler delete, easy to put and tak3 out, sounds mad. What are your thoughts please ?
