Hi Experts,
I am looking to update my 987 S Tip with a 981 (or S) PDK. I have found a 981 S PDK with 52K miles, being lucky enough to have never bought a car with that many miles on it I am a little apprehensive. It’s a Porsche! Will I be buying expensive trouble? If so, what should I be looking at carefully apart for the usual, Full OPC history, disc and tyres ....? Listening carefully to PDK, exhaust, engine tapping....
Many thanks

I don't think 52k on a modern Porsche is a problem if it has been well-looked after.

There's a chap on boxa.net who bought his with 70k and his just ticked over 100k, no major issues.

Typical things to watch for, HVAC issues like leaking AC condensers or corroded pipework, sticky fans and seized changeover valves. If the car has Sports Chrono there is a risk of broken dynamic transmission mounts, not common but it can happen, that would throw an error on the dash.

Engine and gearbox are generally strong on these. Coilpacks at that mileage may go but not too expensive if it happens.

Try and buy one that's had the plugs and belt changed recently will save you some money.

My 981 GTS has 55k now. Drives, feels and looks as new. Absolutely no issues (touch wood!).

..... Likewise, my 981 Boxter S has done 51,000 miles, and I'm hoping to do a 6000 mile road trip in May to Athens and the Greek Islands! I love the car, having covered 15,000 miles over two years in it!

Thank you all very much for the reply’s and putting my mind at ease re the mileage. I am intending to buy, after a second test drive this time on an A road or Motorway this weekend! I must admit it looks fantastic and has a very good spec, wish me luck!

You haven’t said how old the car is.

It can't be more than 7 years.

Spot on, first registered March 2012! So coming up to the 7 year anniversary.

Is that significant?

Nope, it's just means it's an early 981.

No. But another poster above asked as if it were relevant. I was merely pointing out that it could not be an old car and the age and mileage is well within Porsche warranty territory.

Nice to hear, mine's got 32k and I have been worried that it was getting up there in miles!

It has been faultless.

If it makes you feel any better, I've just bought, yet to collect a 2016 981 2.7 with north of 34,000 miles.
Appearance and test drive were flawless - two year OPC warranty included though, to be on the safe side.

Mine is a 2013 '63 plate currently on 45k (2.7 PDK). Only problems so far have been the brake pedal issue and the fan heater sticking, (both well documented - just search). It has only seen routine service items thus far.

It will be heading on a couple of trips this year and I expect to add at least 6-7k before the year is out.

Bought my Cayman on 41k (from memory) and now on 71k. It hasn't missed a beat in my time, except for a windscreen washer pipe which was replaced under warranty this week (had a 1000 mile 718 boxster for the day but that's a different story)

2 dealers have remarked on the good condition of the car and the interior has held up as well as the exterior.

As long as it's been looked after I don't see a problem with higher mileage. My warranty is up in September and I'll definitely renew but almost 2 years and 30k mileage with only a washer pipe speaks volumes to me. Oh and tyres... And brakes in a month or so but that's to be expected.

Should be speckled with stone chips at the front, and behind the rear wheels on the lower arches, unless you're buying from an OPC in which case they'll have painted these areas..

If buying privately and no stone chips in these areas, check why and where it was painted and contact the body shop to check no other damage.
