VW MK5 GTI LIMP MODE AFTER DIVERTER VALVE CHANGE
Discussion
Hi guys need help here I wasnt feeling much power in my mk5 gti so i had the diverter valve changed as had a problem with boost circulation on the dignostics. Was put on dyno and was only producing 162 bhp after I changed the valve it produced 219 well impressed with that so I have been kicking it a little especially over bumps it went into limp mode struggling to go over 40 mph even in sports mode. So I turned car off and put it back on and it has been fine any ideas as to what may have happened.

Rather than continue to drive around like an idiot take the car back to whoever fitted the diverter and explain the likelihood that you ragging it over bumps and taking it to 100mph in limp mode has created new issues for them to fix.
I drove like an idiot pal to suss out more which i have. and it wasnt in limp mode when i was ragging it Sorry for blunt reply, so you've given it the ol Italian tune up then, I read it as you've been hammering it more and more whilst new issues develop.
Most likely is the new diverter has resolved one boost issue and the increased boost has now upset another sensor or a boost pipe/connector has failed. I'd try disconnecting battery earth for a few min, unplug the MAF sensor and go for a quick drive and see if it's any different. Hunt around the vacuum lines around the throttle body, check the intercooler piping and go from there.
Since you mentioned bumps, il presume speed bumps you may have simply knocked the turbo outlet pipe which is under the car on the driver side at the back of the engine bay. It loopw under subframe and toward the front of the car into the intercooler

Im going to have it checked by the end of the week or next week going to leave the bad boy to rest il keep you guys updated. Most likely is the new diverter has resolved one boost issue and the increased boost has now upset another sensor or a boost pipe/connector has failed. Hey guys after a full service and a turbo cleaner spray the problems have gone. But now appears another few the car temperature drops slightly when driving it takes a good 10mins for the needle to move doesent move significantly but goes back forward a little unless u hammer it it stays in middle. And on a cold start theres a strange noise that sounds like a belt or a fan touching some plastic its from around the oil dipstick area goes away when car is about to get warm or driving for around a mile it only happens when starting first time.

The low temp will be the thermostat. I assume it's not a DSG (they have 2!) it's behind the alternator, the thermostat is part of a housing (black plastic with a plug on it) and genuine VW about 60 sheets. Common on every MK5 TFSI I've come across.
Yh i done abit of research and seen it coukd be that or the water temp sensor and its a dsg on 87000miles. How would you know which one needs changing if its the thermo. And any idea on the sound when it starts up coldmercedeslimos said:
Likely to be the 'stat. Sensors rarely give trouble and it would flag a code. They have 2 coolant temperature sensors too just to be sure. Rattle could be VVT chain/tensioner, they like to give bother too.
Ah okay il try to get that sorted then pal as well as getting the chain il keep you guys updated once again cheers😁
