So I'm as skint as the man selling the big issue. But my girl has some work in Jersey which includes accommodation in Jersey for a few weeks. So after my last mini success of going over the water and hitting up France, Belgium and Amsterdam on my glorified moped - I've booked the ferries and have decided to have a week on a place where accommodation costs would usually stop me from going.

Now I am sort of saving for a sv650 - but the PCX has also had upgrades since last time. I now have a boot (back box) and also decent sidebags to make life easy. I can even easily strap a bag where Beth (the better half of the couple) usually goes. I'm heading out from Portsmouth with no bed and no guaranteed seat which takes about 10hrs (hoping to wrap sleeping bag around and getting some kip), and coming back on the fast boat and landing in Poole and riding home in the night.

I know it's going to be wet. And I know it's going to be cold. But on paper the Island looks small enough that it's perfect for a moped type bike. Beth will be off work for about 2 days - the rest of the time she will be working and I'll be exploring when she is at work. I think it seems like fun.

So... anyone got any advice? Things to definitely not miss? Is parking okay for a bike? Is it like the UK where stopping it getting stolen is the hardest part of riding? If anyone is local and wants to meet up for a ride (slowly as I don't exactly fly on the ped) then I'm happy to pay for the coffee's/beers.

Cheers in advance.

Not been for a while but know a few people who live on Jersey and Guernsey. It's a small island so I'll leave you to figure out what you want to see but if memory serves the highest speed limit is 40mph in Jersey and 30mph in Guernsey so a moped will be fine. As for theft- I don't think you need to worry. It's a very affluent and small place, there's still plenty of people who leave their car keys in the ignition because theft just isn't something to worry about. By all means take some precautions but it shouldn't be a serious concern. Have fun! Also keen to hear on your experiences as my wife has never been so thinking of taking her on the bike too.

I spent a week on Jersey with just a bicycle and a tent and you can cycle everywhere without any trouble, so a scooter/moped will be fine.

Theft levels are very low so security shouldn't be an issue.

You should be able to see most of the attractions across a few days as the island really isn't that big.
