Anyone use these? I’ve always just used my finger, but are the tools any good for getting a consistent bead etc as it is a bit of a black art!

Cheers!

Spray bottle with water and washing up liquid if you want a decent finish without thinning out.
Spit on a finger is ok as long as you don't get silicone on your tongue , I believe it's been known to cause cancer of the tongue. I could be a myth however.

A millions times better than using your finger!

Screwfix have some, but there's plenty of cheaper ones on Ebay as well that also work well.

Tried the fugi, waste of money. As said above, you won't beat getting it wet then using a finger.

I've used the little rubber tools with various radii on them, gave a really good result, I'll be digging them out again next time I need to do some.

Use the tool. It’s only when you see how good the end result is, even after several years, will you realise that using the finger just produces a poor finish.

twenty years of using the wet finger method and will never ever go back to that.

I am st at silicone! Well i was until i tried a fugi tool and the finish is now 99% as good as a pro, although it obviously takes me longer. Proper 45 degree angles that look the bks.

People saying its crap i wonder if they are swiping it the correct way and also using a spray with washing up liquid?

The wiping the finger along method does not work for me at all.

I couldn't get the hang of them at all on anything but straight flat surfaces.

Any tile joint, corner or othe intricacy is a PITA and they just don't have the pliability required to get a good finish in these cases.

I do find licking or dipping a finger isn't enough. Spray bottle as suggested above keeps things running smooth.

I'm in the trade and have tried every tool going, the best way i have found is to use the little key fob card you get with a toolstation, pets at home membership etc.

Its smooth and just cut a few different sized angles on each corner leaving one square, also buy some trade wipes.

The tiler that did our kitchen (marble worktop slabs, hob cut out and island sink cut out etc.) used a couple of well worn sticks! 2 to 3mm beads that there's no way could be done using your finger. Best I've seen. I want to look at the slabs and not have my eyes drawn to a 10mm line of silicon!!

+1 +1 +1

anyone on here reckons they don't work really does not understand how to properly use sealant tools or indeed sealant.

excellent video here as a starter. The 'Don't list' will rule out a lot of statements made on here.

Maybe my standards of finish are just higher...

16:20 -16:30 in that video show exactly what I mean. Bumping between tile joints he's leaving a crap finish. Odd how detailed and focused the footage is showing his deliberate bad attempt at the start compared with his camera efforts in his shower.

As for his "don't list". It should just be one point. "Don't apply silicone incorrectly".
He deliberately "drags" the silicone too fast to demonstrate how poorly it CAN be done. If that's his best non-fugi effort then perhaps he's in the wrong job.

They don't wipe clean half as easy as he's saying.
They "bump" over tile joints (which he demonstrates)
He never shows doing a corner in detail
I could go on...
