Dilemma - Porsche or Toyota?
Discussion
No doubt you'll get a few scoffing at the very thought of a Toyota in comparison to a Porsche but for what it's worth you aren't alone.
Different scenario but for my next "fun" car my heart says £15k 996 + £5k budget for maintenance for two years but my head is saying £15k GT86 + £5K for modding/supercharging and no sleepless nights worrying about engine failure.
Suggest you drive both and see which you prefer??

Well GR Yaris to be precise.
So tempted to preorder, but also lusting a 981s
I know those are very different cars, and the only ones I like.
Thoughts?
Have Porsche GT cars inc 981 (GT4) and I have a deposit down on a Yaris GR. Needs the track pack to get the two diffs and more attractive wheels though. So tempted to preorder, but also lusting a 981s

It won't be the same build quality but I've always loved rally and the GR appears to have been approached in the right way versus being a cynical sticker pack exercise.
For a 3-cyl, it really doesn't sound bad at all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORwTblU4BK8&t=...

I have a 981 GT4 and I am seriously considering adding a GR Yaris to my garage. I registered my interest in January but will defer any purchasing decision until I have had an opportunity to test-drive the Yaris.
I agree that it will need the circuit pack though. I intend to track the car but expect that it will be an all year round B-road weapon in a way that the GT4 definitely isn't.

Wouldn’t the circuit (track) pack make it harsher on our not so great roads?
Can't answer that until UK road tests come out which will be the earliest indication of pliancy I think. Dealer told me before the pandemic that they were expecting demonstrators in August and I'd expect press reviews out a month or two before so who knows. Stunters said:

Pretty much my feeling. I've got a Clubsport S for B-road and the Yaris has to be better than the VW for me to think about parting with the CSS as there'd be no point keeping both.I agree that it will need the circuit pack though. I put down a refundable deposit with a dealer who expected their demonstrator in August. They said there had been phenomenal interest and had taken 6 deposits already (I called at 11am on the day order books opened). Whether it's true or not or that remains given the pandemic, who knows.

It will be tough to adjust to a lack idiosyncratic build issues in the Toyota. It won't be the same build quality but I've always loved rally and the GR appears to have been approached in the right way versus being a cynical sticker pack exercise.

Nah... You'll be using the handbrake to do that
We'll know Toyota mean business if the handbrake decouples the centre diff.
Haha! I'd collect at least a cyclist or a horse if I broadsided a corner where I am at this time of year. They're like midges in the highlands at the moment. We'll know Toyota mean business if the handbrake decouples the centre diff.
Quiet delight at not having a hateful electronic park brake though.
Last Japanese car I was looking forward to was the Jimny and then I drove it. £(@ awful. Hope this doesn't turn out the same way.
In these situations my method has always been to imagine sitting at the lights, and the car you didn't choose pulling up alongside you. Would you rather be in that car than the one you're in? If so, get it. If you can look over, admire it, but carry on happy with what you're sitting in then choose that.

Wasn't even aware of the Yaris GR, but it actually looks a proper hoot.
This YT video has a really good walkaround. Its in Japanese but you get to see a lot of detail. There is a lot of speculation that this may become a lot more limited than was originally planned due to Toyota cancelling their WRC 2021 involvment due to Covid which is what this car was being homologated for.https://youtu.be/IGpI4_7ydI0

Same dilemma!
Actively looking for a manual 981 GTS whilst also having put down a (refundable) £800 deposit for a GR Yaris.
May end up with both if I can get my man maths right with the wife
A £800 refundable deposit for Yaris GR? How? Actively looking for a manual 981 GTS whilst also having put down a (refundable) £800 deposit for a GR Yaris.
May end up with both if I can get my man maths right with the wife
The only option I see online is a £1500 non-refundable reservation fee.

I was under the impression it was 100% refundable Where in the t&c’s did you read that it wasn’t?
To be precise, t&c’s clearly mention that £1500 is in addition to the cost of the car, not a deposit. Have a look, I saw it there. It’s refundable if you change your mind prior to signing the paperwork I believe, otherwise it’s that plus the car cost.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
