Seller should have taken that highest bid and ran (if they were indeed real bids).
Set the reserve price, get your mates to bid close to the reserve price, and then hope for the best. biggrin
I do wonder whether there needs to be some differentiation between private sellers choosing to sell on the auction site and dealers who are selling cars on which they do not want to offer any warranty ...

And then a vendors name changes ? And then there appears to be the possibility of "incestuous" questions and bids ?

In recent weeks there have bee a lot of questions that have remained significantly unanswered. A Renault Clio V6 advertised as unregistered that turned out to be a Renault dealer demo, unregistered, sold to the Channel Islands and laid up, bought back by a private owner and then a dealer and advertised by the dealer as a one owner unregistered car ??

Some very robust Q&A's with obvious lack of transparency on the part of the vendor / dealer ... said the car was owned by him and not the business so the capital gain was untaxed ?? I'll bet it is now !!

At least when selling privately you know who you are dealing with and can have sensible and open direct discussions ...

My feeling is that Collecting cars now need to be very careful, Car and Classic and The Market offer similar services, these anomalies are only the ones that I have noticed ...

Almost as if to prove the point, this guy is having a nightmare…

https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2006-porsche-9...

I’m no GT3 aficionado, so someone will need to educate me a little on what clubsport and clubsport interior are, but the seller has put a couple of cars through CC recent,y and all of them appear to have had some issues.

I thought the comments here were hilarious and it makes CC look very tame!

Clubsport is a factory caged car, which would also come with factory buckets. There are shell/chassis differences to include the cage mounting points.

Clubsport interior was the buckets but no cage with a standard shell/chassis that doesn't have cage mounts.

The seller has updated much of the listing now state the cage is aftermarket and its not a factory clubsport.

Looks like the owner of VVS, punting out his personal collection before the sky falls down

Something just doesn’t look right with that white 997 gt3.

People need to be very careful with, the auction site seems to be the place to sell cars not wanted by the trade due to history issues or underlying mechanical issues.

Trade cars being sold on as private is also not doing them or the dealers associated any favours.

This. As I said previously , ‘Bring A Trailer with Chris Harris’. An automotive Elephants Graveyard. This type of platform is open to huge manipulation unfortunately, I‘d go to good Independent all day.

CC is the place to dispose of the 'chlamydia' cars stuck in the trade.

I would probably buy from cc but it would have to be an auction discount deal to reflect the higher risks of likely not being able to do full check and due dilligence before buying. As a result there are a few types of cars and value of cars i wouldn't buy there and a specialist limited edition track version is one of them !

Madness people seem to still be paying retail for pretty much everything on there.

356 A Speedster

https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1957-porsche-3...

Has been bid up to just over £220k by one bidder who seems intent on topping anyone else’s bids. Scant information about the cars history (i.e. absolutely no documents online), no details of the previous restoration and nothing about whether it is s matching numbers car. It is even impossible to tell if it is in the original colour because the Certificate of Authenticity/Kardex aren’t shown online. No images of chassis number stamping etc

Soemone has asked for more information in the Comments section but doesn’t look like seller has responded.

Someone has bid £220k for it without knowing any of that information.

There is more info on sotheby website when it failed to sell last time, very vague on the engine, sounds like not the original cases.

3 days to go..
JZM have 3 or 4 of these for sale currently. If I was in the market which I’m not , I’d want a £10k discount to one I could look at test drive and buy from a highly reputable specialist !

What I think is amazing is the fact he upped the bid massively (nearly 60%) with 5 days to go - I’d do absolutely nothing until the last couple of minutes - can’t see any logic to this approach

You can't snipe like ebay at the last minute. CC keep extending the auction time if there are late bids.

I sometimes just bid what I would pay / think is still cheap (call it 25% of my max bid) just to get it going and see if there is serious interest

If you Google the “famous” owner and Porsche you’ll see that this car was for sale in another site previously not sure if it sold
