We've been members for a few years but only really keep paying because of events like Bicester, Brands Hatch and Silverstone Classic where we've met some really nice people and very enthusiastic club officials. We went to one local meeting years ago in our first Macan and some old duffer asked us why we'd turned up in that monstrosity. Needless to say we didn't bother going back.
I think you've every right there to tell old fella to..."shove his car up his hole!"RO19 said:

The Esso fuel card is pretty useful or will be once lockdown ends. Esso Synergy Supreme petrol has just been upgraded to 99 octane and now the only petrol in the UK with no nasty gooey Ethanol in it.
The fuelpecker card should get you 5p off Synergy Supreme all year long - PCGB card isn't as good. Wonder what they make from promoting the card?RO19 said:
I just wanted to let you know that fortunately not all regions are like this, I took on the role of Regional Organiser for the Thames Valley Region in April 2019, all of our meetings are fully inclusive, if you happen to have a Porsche tractor, you can arrive with that or any other Porsche that you happen to have at the time. Even if you are not in our region we would be more than happy to see you at our events if you are local enough to attend, please bring the Macan, we do not see too many and they are always a nice addition.
Where are the Thames Valley meets held nowadays(in normal times)? Still at Knowl Hill?RO19 said:

Have to agree with this. I'm involved with three regions and RO19 has been exceptional. The ROs are genuinely nice guys and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and engaged by introducing you to other members and facilitating that initial interaction that can at times be a bit awkward. "Normal" times you say.... why on Zoom then! But seriously, was at the Coppid Beech Hotel in Bracknell before lockdown. Never went myself but seemed to be decent location.

"Normal" times you say.... why on Zoom then! When we get back to normality, fingers crossed, we normally meet on the first Sunday of every month at the Coppid Beech Hotel in Bracknell, 12.00 onwards, easy access and a nice big car park. Be a real pleasure to see you there. You can also sign up for our emails through the PCGB website, as once lockdown is clear we will have some additional meetings.

To anyone contemplating leaving (or not joining) PCGB over this EGM issue, give it a try, the club is all about the local membership and this EGM fiasco is about one local region's gripes. Regarding some of the earlier comments about the club being a bit elitist, this may be true in some regions with a few 'mine is better than yours' types who want to bore you with lap times on track days, but they are a minority in my experience. Prior to joining, I thought that members were probably a bunch of 911 snobs so I didn't bother joining the club when I bought a 2010 Cayman in 2015. In 2017, I happened to go to a local car event where PCGB R2 (Scotland North) had a display of member's cars. 911s were a minority, with a good mix of Boxsters, 944, 968 etc. in attendance. Concluding that these were owned by people more like me, I decided to join up for a year and see how it went. What I found was that the active members locally were a great bunch (including the 911 owners!) and I became a regular attendee at local events. Still have not been to any national events, most are too far from home to attend without adding a couple of nights overnight stay to the costs. However I have been a regular attendee at the region's annual WOTY (Weekend of the Year) which typically sees a turnout of 40 to 50 members for a 2-3 night weekend away and have toured Northern Ireland in an event organised by the region. If you join and don't feel welcome, persevere with a couple more events and I am sure you will find acceptance by people that you do enjoy spending time with.

I'd say it's about some people in one region. I'm not a particularly active member, but the register forums are great for technical help and Q&A when needed (anyone as crap as me at spannering needs all the help they can get) and the magazine is decent. After all this lockdown business I might get more involved - having talked to people in my local region as a result of the EGM they seem like a very decent bunch. As any club, you probably get out what you put in, and I'll be trying to put a bit more effort in when I can...itsporker said:

At last an accurate post , I’ve been a member for 35+ years , something for everyone in all regions, R2 are very fortunate with their ROsIt's all gotten very tiring. The latest email was titled "A Message From The Chair" and started with...
>>> "With just a day to go before the EGM I am writing to give you a sense of the decisions that lie before you and what you can expect from me and the Board."
I have much more important decisions that lie before me than PCGB.
I get less dramatic correspondence from my Accountant about my company...I guess it's all entertaining to some degree!

Ha! Sums the whole thing up. Storm in a teacup, but akin to a global conflict in the eyes of those involved "With just a day to go before the EGM I am writing to give you a sense of the decisions that lie before you and what you can expect from me and the Board."

The email points me to this link saying... All documentation relating to the EGM can be found here.https://www.porscheclubgb.com/egm
Guess what isn't there...
Some changes will always be beneficial ... but as said already, there is an existing process to approve and manage change within the existing administration.
This EGM is about a small band exploiting a very outdated constitution in an attempt for that small number of members to appoint themselves to this task, in so doing, taking control of the whole operation.
Of course they could just stand for appointment to the Board in the normal way ... but they apparently prefer to park their tanks on the lawn.

The way they've conducted themselves hasn't won any favours I think. I was keen to listen to the points they were making but their attitude has put me (and I suspect quite a few others) off. All a bit unnecessary, for a car club, really.
