Thanks for clear up - I think I'd assumed the 24mth Warranty was from new.......

I would suggest pushing to customer services; citing the history, but a goodwill claim may work too - depending on service history (the dealer themselves are asked to contribute in some cases) so it pays to be a previous customer of the centre in question. Totally unhelpful I know, but extended Warranty would have covered it all they'll ask the question why you didn't continue it.
