I've swung from being horribly depressed about the future of motoring to loving it; honestly can't see myself ever buying another new ICE car... EV for the week, classic ICE for the weekend... sign me up.
^This. After just a few months of only occasional use of an EV (wife's I-Pace) pumping fuel into a car seems barely less of a bind than shoveling coal into a steam boiler.

I would never want to surrender the keys to my beloved ICE track/fun car, but for every day driving, for the driving I do at least, the EV trumps ICE comfortably.

I was an EV sceptic for a long time but having owned/driven our Taycan 4S for 8 months i'm fully converted. The most surprising aspect about our Taycan is how much i actually enjoy driving it for the sheer sake of it, much more so than the plethora of past Porsche Hybrids i've owned. Biggest surprise is the quality of the steering and brake feel.

Order placed this morning for a 4S Cross Turismo.

Now the wait begins till early next year.

Ironically, all the monies saved by going for an EV daily through my business will now be put towards a V12 Ferrari

biggrin I was told about start of Sept for mine ordered 2 weeks ago... Am chasing for a timeline... Is this the actual reality of microchip shortage?

Porsche seriously lowballed me on trade in for the Macan PP so am having the wheels refurbed and a bumper scrape fixed ready for a private sale - timeline is therefore critical!

It seems it matters at which OPC you're ordering.

I've been told today that 3 to 4 months is viable from now - but that seems to be through manufacturer owned OPC's. I'm waiting on confirmation.

Obviously the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned. I'm keep to move on my existing car whilst there's a shortage of decent used vehicles about.

I’m sure you’ll love it. Amazing spec, you’ve gone to town on this. Interesting that you’ve gone for acoustically insulated glass. When the Carrera T came out everyone was going wild over the lightweight rear window glass. Now in the Taycan, we’re onto the double glazing spec!

To be fair, white would not be my choice, that's Mrs Findtom as it's her car.

My daily is a petrol hybrid, I am looking at the development of hydrogen as a fuel for vehicles. My feeling is EV's for shorter journeys, hydrogen for larger vehicles , commercials, and longer journeys for cars in the longer term. Toyota have just finished the Fuji 24 hours in a hydrogen powered car with a normal ICE fitted, lots of work to be done but I think it will be the future, no one is going to pay for all the charging points we'd need for everyone to go EV. Interesting the comments reflecting that if there were no tax benefits for EV, you wouldn't have got one.
In the meantime I'm happy with my 996, motorbike, and we've just ordered a GR Yaris for Mrs Grumpy. There's life and a whole load of fun left in the ICE yet.

If Euro 7 regs are introduced as proposed then maybe the fun will be shorter lived than many expect.

I have recently ordered my first Porsche, a 911. I fell in love on the test drive but since ordering and with the recent news in Europe it made me think whether I should be going ev instead.

I assume a few on here have driven a taycan 4s and a 992? How do they compare. I may test drive a taycan at some point before my build date is confirmed.

What are others experiences. Some of the comments in here suggest it's not great, others seem to love it.

I owned a Taycan 4S for a short period of time (for financial reasons....), sold it after three months and picked up my ordered 992S. The Taycan feels like a technological wonder, how it can drive so well while being so heavy is genius engineering. But you really have to watch it on corner entry... the weight catches up with you at some point. When I had the Taycan I just felt that cars like the M5 are totally redundant as they are already so heavy. But.... the charging infrastructure is bloody appalling. Range anxiety is always there on longer journeys, especially if you are going somewhere remote. And the car is rather dull if you have had anything like a proper sports car in the past. As an every day car it is brilliant, if charging is sorted then I'd have another for day to day driving. Then I got back in a 911 and realised how much I prefer it. Obviously my opinion, but given all the changes about to happen I reckon I'll have my 992 for ever now.

I have a Taycan 4S and a modified 991.2 carrera, which is my favourite of the 2. The Taycan is a fantastic road car though, with its incredible traction and comfort. Things firm up significantly in sports + mode and it can be piloted remarkably quickly through corners. You feel the weight at first, but after a bit the brain adjusts and you start flinging it in. The thing grips! IMO it’s preferable to an M5.

You asked about the 992. I’ve driven the 4S and the base carrera 2, both PDK. The 4S is just so composed now and the 911 character is lost. Obviously this is said with every new generation, but in a 4S it’s stark. The base was a lot more fun and still gives some feedback on grip.

If I was in your position I’d rank it 1. 992 Carrera S manual 2. 992 Carrera 2 PDK 3. Taycan 4S 4. 992 4wd variant

Naturally this is just one opinion. Sales will tell you that PDK is best by a huge margin.

I'm looking at the 992 Carrera 2 pdk. That's what I'm down for currently. Been a dream to get a 911 and it will be my most expensive car by far. I'm really bad at spending my money (don't spend it) so this is a way to try and break that.

So money wise it doesn't feel like it's much different for the car. Tax and petrol obviously different to to taycan.

Agree on the M5 comparison. I think after the 911 I'd be in a taycan or a etron gt as it will be a few years further down the line and the extra guilt will push me that way.

I think the infrastructure may be better too.

I guess the thing is, the taycan makes more sense with two young kids and really I only need a nice cruiser which the taycan seems to do well.

Yeah, the kids enjoy short trips in the 911 on the occassion. The Taycan is luxurious for them and is helped by the glass roof. We’ve done almost 5000 miles in it and are yet to charge it anywhere but home. I’ve taken it out on an owners club drive. Lots of the guys were very happy with their Taycan in comparison to various other expensive toys.

I suspect that is why you are happy with it as you have yet to experience the infrastructure flaws.

I have been following this discussion, and related discussions, for a few days now. I hadn’t really thought about an EV (and generally have been anti-EV) but the realisation of the BIK and super car type performance made it suddenly an interesting consideration.
However, I currently often have to travel 230 miles each way for work each week and the in the area where I am working there is just one hotel and one petrol station with a charger and that makes life difficult. Who know where I will be working when this contract ends. I also need to tow regularly but most importantly I am one of those strange people that doesn’t buy a car on a PCP or similar, I usually buy a 3-4 year old car outright with my own money and run as long as I need/want, so my current X3 is paid for and my work mileage gets 45p per mile in expenses. It strikes me that I still need an X3 type car for my towing and whilst the BIK is attractive, I still have to pay out capital from my company to buy one and that capital otherwise can be used for something else. What am I missing?

No tow bar possible on the Taycan, and the Cross Tourismo only gets one to mount a special bike rack. 230 miles each way will be possible in summer (though you'll need decent charging facilities on the other end) but you'll struggle it in the winter.
