I’ve had a couple of GT3RS cars and a GT2RS- yet I’ve never had any grief or negative vibes from other motorists or the public.
Only once had a bad experience- I was filling up my GT3RS at a local petrol station when 2 Irish chaps from the travelling community came over and started being morons - one of them tried to peel off the stick on front numberplate etc …… such cretins can not be accounted for

Oh dear, I have a bright green GT4 arriving next month, I’ll report back… biggrin
Drive it in your garage at night and you will be fine! smile
It's finally arrived at the dealer(a few months late thanks to the production delays), I'm now on countdown to pickup day when I'm going to have rocks thrown at me as I drive it home... biggrinshoot

Chap I knew many many years ago got himself a brand new TR7 convertible. Sat there in the town centre traffic, shades on, top down thinking he's the canines genitalia and some old tramp walks over, picks up the rubbish bin and empties it in the back of his car.

He's sat there going no where, stinking to high heaven with the whole world laughing at him. Nice bloke but still makes me chuckle today even if it does make me nervous when driving a soft top.
Wearing sunglasses in a convertible? Wow. String him up. rolleyes

I'd say that was 100% jealousy/bitterness. Including from the "whole world" laughing at him. Be honest, that's why you laughed too isn't it? Because there's no other obvious, logical, or acceptable reason.
I can't see the reason for it or even worse to think its at all funny. banghead

Whenever I see a Porsche, they seem to be driving smoothly and calmly, hence no-one makes any particular notice. I find it’s HOW people drive not WHAT they drive that attracts any on-road comments/actions.
Oh, I dunno. I drive my R8 V10 like a nutter, and have only had one person give me the bird (for overtaking him with oodles of space.....), and one call me a cu.. in a drive through for no reason at all (he can't have known!).

It's more down to stereoyping I reckon. I get nothing but good feedack and reponses. You can faintly hear people down the pub right now talkling about that "wker with a red porsche" - they just follow what others have said . Peer groups etc. Porsche, in the past, used to be the THE way to show your money. It was THE "barely" affordable very fast sports car. It was also THE yuppie car.

Simple people are always going to be simple, basically. I mean, remember when the Boxster came out? Every single journo said it was a fantastic car and a bargain, and yet, the Great British public labelled it "the poor man's porsche" and scoffed at it. The intelligent labelled it a bloody bargain!

I used to have a 996 and got lots of people trying to push me into a race. Never happens in the Audi. Perhaps with the R8 they know it's not worth it.

In fairness the guy who started that thread didn't come across well at the outset.

I can't say I get any hate when I bring my Boxster out for a drive, people are generally positive about it, I feel more conscious when i'm driving it though than when I drive my BMW 240i which is my daily, I guess I feel people will judge my driving more because they tend to notice a Porsche more than a grey BMW.

The worst reaction I get is when driving the wife's Mini Countryman people love to pull out in front of the mini, cut me up etc. It's bizarre as I drive it in the same way I drive the BMW and never have an issue.

OP here. Just got back from a trip to Zandvoort in Holland and what a breath of fresh air even in this heat. Nothing but thumbs up and waves from drivers and pedestrians throughout the trip. Renewed my faith in human kindness. Back in the UK now so hope the good vibes continue. C

I admit I skim read the thread but I had thought he'd owned it outright?

Ford is definitely not like for like, was my point, I had some sympathy for the OP unlike some of the jealous posters.

Even if he own's it outright, he's still "paying for it" - he has to work to afford that. The fact some people pay slowly, and some pay in one lump sum doesn't change what they paid for something - just the method / duration. I'd be well ticked off to be given a small hatch if my car was put off the road for several months and I had like for like cover. All that time I'd be losing out on the reason I bought it, and, it would be getting older and losing value, so yes, I'd want something more fruity - I'd not expect another R8 but I'd want something interesting.

Back on topic a bit - a lot of the posts on there have nothing to do with they way he put forward his plight, Calling his loaner a " cheap Ford" clearly rubbed up some people the wrong way, but most of the vitriol seems squarely aimed at the fact he owns a Porsche, and wants a similar hire car.

"I’ve just coughed up a bit of sick."

"Slow? How fast do you need to go. And how are you out of pocket? You'll be saving money on fuel so you owe the insurers the difference.""

"If it was me, I wouldn't really care. As long as the loan car was big enough for my family" - "But what will the neighbours think?!"

"nodding in agreement"

"rofl
Personally speaking, I really couldn't care less about what car they saw me driving, thats for sure!"

"Entitled. Pathetic. First world problem. The rest of my replies get sweary."

"Not crying on the internet like a spoiled child."

"you think you're something better than a Ford Focus driver, but you aren't entitled to a Macan or similar."

"Maybe they’ll give you a sticker for the rear window so that anyone who sees you in that dreadful Ford doesn’t think you’ve fallen on hard times and can’t afford the payments on the Porsche. Bet the neighbours windows are twitching as I write this…."

"Surely they could have at least sourced a Beetle from somewhere." - OK, that's actually quite funny :-)

"Just be grateful you have a car to use. Move on with life and stop the compensation questions."

It goes on.

I'll bet if the OP had an RS6 it would be very different in terms of replies.

Thought I'd better update this since I spoke too soon above. I've just had 2x full blown w censored r signs within 40miles of each other, it wasn't even anyone that knew me which was the strange thing.
Alternatively, this week someone randomly asked me at my desk at work what engine was in my car because she reckons it sounds lovely biggrin

I really don't understand the need for others to pass comment or "hate" on another persons property.

Regarding a Porsche (Ok as a brand it covers a pretty big spread of price points) it says a few things to a few people and people being people react as they see fit.

To the OP, I feel your pain.

When I first got my Z4MR I was over joyed with it. It was a few years old but meant the world to me. The amount of negativity I got was jarring at first and then it tailed off. Maybe I became less sensitive to it or the plates age deterred peoples angst to it, no idea,

When I got the M2 Comp that got the odd acknowledging nod, I do remember someone in a car park being all over it wanting to know what it was as they'd never seen one before.

Fast forward a few years and I'm awaiting delivery of a Cayman GTS 4.0 (Ice Grey metallic) and as much I'm looking forward to it, I'm dreading the "You've got a nice car, you must be an absolute d**k, I'm going to damage it to vent my rage / gesticulate to you as your car offends me"

Which is all sorts of weird, right?

Even if I see a barried up Corsa or a Golf R with a Pop map, I'll shake my head and carry on with my day. I don't feel the need to race them, tailgate or gesticulate etc.

Haters are gonna hate and I'll never understand the need of some to impact the life of a stranger negatively

I've been trying to exploit the good weather as much as possible with regular top down runs in my, pretty in your face, python green Boxster GTS . Nothing negative ,and on 2 occasions I have been approached by people when parking positively commenting on the colour and car, which I never had with any of my previous Porsches.

In all fairness I don't think Macan's have a good reputation. I think other Porsche's give off more 'enthusiast' vibes.

Not tried with the 718 yet, but with other marques, I don’t think I have ever had a like for like courtesy car, when ever I have asked for one. It’s usually a middle-spec offering from what ever is in the pool at that time.

Is it a standard Porsche thing to always put people in an equivalent vehicle?
