True golden time was the last few minutes I think. With a breakdown and the resulting red flag at about 1635, I thought it was tea time for the marshals so we packed up.

When it reopened for the last 15 I suspect it was like a private track! I still got some lovely clear sessions later in the afternoon. Always special.

I did get a good flash from a certain GT silver RS which can carry much more speed than me down lakeside into Shell. Ropey overtake into the hairpin, but at least on the left because overtaking both sides is absurd on a track day……

When I mentioned it to him he assured me he would never do that, must be someone else. I need to get in touch with him and tell him the video I have proves someone else must have been driving his car. He deserves to know. smile

I had no issues with that car, but heard a few who did. There were a couple of cars that were variously bad a passing or letting others past.

Also, I have to hold my hand up here. When I heard the clerk of course, during the briefing, talk about staying right down Cascades after the pit exit, I was pleased because it (speed differential between cars exiting Old Hall fast and those just leaving the pit) was always something that concerned me. So I was immensely annoyed at myself for getting a very polite bit of advice from a Marshal on the subject. I was quite rightly reported by a car that had to lift through Cascades. I knew exactly which car and made a deliberate effort to unreservedly apologise.

The man who never made a mistake never made anything. The lack of consideration for other drivers, the fact we all paid the same to be on track and deserve a little space is lost on a few.

I was really pissed off, just came out of the pits on cold tyres and the t—t was up my back side plus another gt3,then overtook through the corner, what if i span on cold tyres which were clearly a issue for all with the temps! I have heard them bk people upside down on there days for misdemeanours.

Mad scientist these early cars are great fun at oulton, you have to think about every input, from braking to high-walled historic tyres.

Lat half of the afternoon was brilliant as usual as most of the novices have gone home. Morning was a bit of a mixed bag regarding driving etiquette. Why don't people carry out the most basic actions such as looking in the passenger side mirror, indicate to the right and just take their foot off the throttle to let faster cars pass.
I had a few pull in front of me whilst I was halfway overtaking them on the straights. Needed to have your wits about you more than previous RS days.
Still by far the best trackday of the year mind you. I'm back at Oulton for the May 6th PCGB day for my first track day in the GT4 RS.

Here’s some G force comparison, last week versus a 20 degree day last June. Shows what a difference track temp makes, even when it’s bone dry.

Those are amazing figures ... smile

I assume the higher are the 20 C ?

I settle my tyre pressures at 30 psi running hot and let them come up to 32 ish but not much further ... ??

Yes. Higher figures from warmer temps.

Both on cup 2 tyres previously used on 1 other day. I settle at 33 front and rear as it gives me a good balance overall with the geo. This is a 992 GT3 by the way.

Obligatory pics and video…

Not the greatest laps… have reverted to some mistakes I had been making with apexing too early for some corners… killing speed and also gear selection… can hold 3rd for some corners where I shift to 2nd and hold 4th for some where I downshift unnecessarily into 3rd.

Nice videos T. Is that a Garmin you’ve got now? I need one!

My unsolicited advice: smile

4th for lakeside keeps the car much more stable than downshifting, but it’s still a balls corner and I can’t commit enough, personally.

Full throttle until you hit the Eccles Cakes for Brittens and Druids.

Bit later turning in at Cascades makes a massive difference to the speed you can carry all the way to Island

Finally, with those STs you can brake way later, especially into Lodge and Old Hall.

Dave came back from a spin round with you wearing a massive grin. I reckon he spent all weekend reading about Manthey goodies. Let’s get a few laps together next time. I miss my GT4!

Have to agree about the behaviour of said silver GT3 RS. Was right up into my backside into a couple of heavy breaking zones. On one occasion he pulled in on the same lap, bizarre. Your bang-up-to-date GT3 RS on sticky rubber is faster than my old '4.0 RS', go you.

You were going very well in your 4L RS. No way I would have the cajoolies to push a car of that value so hard. I personally didn't have any issues with Silver RS although I saw one or two reckless overtakes from him whilst I was behind keeping a watchful eye nono

Apparently an iPad and dirty videos, hence the pixelation to comply with YouTube rules.

Amazed he could concentrate at all.

Cheers for the feedback P.

Unfortunately I had reverted/regressed in a number of area as you highlight vs my last outing at OP in April…

Chiefly staying in 4th for lakeside and island… I saw my min speed was more than 10mph down here vs last year in the old car… so that’s just free time. I had gotten comfortable with just keeping it balanced.. but seemed to forget all about that when driving the lap.

Squaring these corners off like you mentioned is something I really need to work on. Later apex, square it and flat on throttle…

Dave and I were lucky to get the final laps.. out lap, flying and in lap, lol… not really enough to get an impression maybe, and a couple seconds off my fastest lap of that day.

As for equipment, yep, I took the plunge with the Garmin Catalyst. I’ve been researching for probably 6 months… and it works in the way I would do my own data analysis… tbf..the day was so busy i had no time to go through the opportunities, or the coaching…. But at the very least was good to have a reliable display up showing red or green.. this helped me to stay more focussed and that yielded better consistency with each session.

I’ll do a proper write up/post at some point.

Do you know what, I didn't!

Yours and T's cars, and driving, were a pleasure to experience but I'm not as addicted to track work as you serious boys. Wolfgang is spot on as he is for my use, I don't need to make him more track focused. The mods I already have, plus the PFC brakes currently in my garage, are as far as I want to go.

Bring on the PCGB day at Oulton in May, I can't wait to drive the circuit again instead of passengering!

Piss taking aside, I'd love to see some of the data you get on that on a future track day.

Garmin kit is IME very well designed and I have been using the Fenix 7 to track mtb rides for a while now. The functionality is insanely good. One of my bikes is an electric assist 'eMtb' and the watch linked to the power sensor with a single click from an automatic prompt. I added electric (cable-less) shift gears and the sensor to those added on a single prompt too. It even tells me when the gear shift battery needs recharging.

I imagine the Catalyst will be incredibly useful at the 'Ring.

This is all very interesting and very useful ...

I find myself wondering now if I really need to run that kerb so hard ... but I still like to know where I should be leaning on the car much more smile

Of course a racing driver would be pushing the car until it slid, but that's no longer me ...

Controlling wear (and cost) whilst having fun is my way forward ... and yes, the last part of the day was the best !!

Thanks. GoPro "Hero5 Session", on a roll cage mount. I think being bolted to cage helps image stability and also sound a bit.

It films well enough, but has it's limits. The GoPro iPhone software is clunky. The battery lasts no time at all, so it has to be plugged into power.

Newer iterations of the GoPro camera might be better. There's other stuff too, like the Insta360 camera.

Not sure what I'd go for next time around.

This goes some way to explain why the general driving standards were worse than an evening at Donnington.
