I’m in the US so it might be a local thing, but…

Why is ACC so rare on second hand cars? I’m looking to buy a Cayenne Turbo, around 2021. I’d say most cars don’t seem to have ACC. It appears to be standard on so many cars now and yet Porsche don’t give it as standard and few option it. I’ve seen option monsters with everything from heads up to Carbon brakes with no ACC.

I don’t have it on my current car and thought it might be one reason to justify the upgrade. I do both a commute in heavy traffic and 500 mile journeys in a day. I never use cruise control because it isn’t adaptive.

My wife’s Q3 has it so why don’t cayennes?

Can't answer your question specifically, but I hate ACC compared to normal CC. My RR Evoque is just too digital in it's thinking when ACC is engaged, so for example if someone pulls out in front of you whilst on the motorway (freeway) the car will brake even though it doesn't really need to. I get why it does, but its like some adaptive programming that's needed for real world application is missing. YMMV.

BTW I quite often do similar distance journeys to you, and only really engage the ACC if temporary speed limits are in force or its dead early in the morning when there's virtually no traffic about.

It isn't a cheap option, that's all I can think of. My current Cayenne has it because I spec'd the car from new, but most of the other Cayenne's I've seen around don't have the distinctive ugly radar in the front grille, so I think your US experience is mirrored in the UK. After 4 years I wouldn't be without it on a car that does a lot of motorway miles.

I imagined it would be something people would go for especially in the US where long road trips are common. I am surprised that I can purchase a $135k base price car that does not have it as standard. I am seeing cars optioned to over $170k without ACC. It is as if people actively do not want it.

I thought the thread was going to be about automatic climate control and was surprised that someone might think it's rare. hehe

Have ACC on our Cayenne…wouldn’t be without it on any daily now. Use it all the time.

I personally found the spec of Porsches and optional packages are quite different in USA/CAN vs UK/Europe (same as BMW as well). When I moved to Canada, I was surprised to find many options on my Macan S were standard or part of some larger package, but in the UK they were extra cost of single options. Plus in Canada i found that lots of dealers order and spec cars before the customer does. They then sell these cars as new, but on the way or in production and are often already spec'd very well.

But back to your point, was there any chip shortage during the time of that build (late 2020-21), and thus ACC wasn't spec'd or added...?

I wondered about chip shortage or lease impact. Audi's did not seem to have a shortage for their cars so I assume its Porsche owners that just do not like it. Also, the impact of lease cars can be seen on the base models because they have very limited options to pay off during the lease. However, the cayenne Turbos can have crazy options checked so the owners were not afraid of the cost and just don't see value in ACC.

We have ACC on our cayenne and it’s lovely on long motorway trips. I know when we specced the car, innodrive with full on lane keeping was unavailable due to a chip shortage.

It’s not just cayennes, seeing the same problem when looking at used taycans. Many of them have big specs but ACC somehow missing.

Each to their own but having had it (and rarely used it), I would not spec again. But then I hardly ever use normal cruise control.
